This is a perfect secluded nature hotel in Karuizawa. Staffs are very friendly. Hotel is not too big. Hotel is clean and well maintained, however, there may be some incense smell due to insect repellent. Booked 3 rooms for 7 guests. Toilets are available in-rooms. There are 2 onsen, public (gender seperated) and private. The private onsen is available on request from the lobby, however, to be considerate to other guests, a 45-minute limit will be applied. However, if there are no guests waiting, you can continue your usage. Dinner is provided as a Kaiseki style. Breakfast is a full typical japanese breakfast. Yukata robes is provided. There is a manga corner for those who read Japanese. Access is very easy, using the bus to Kose Onsen station (yes, they have their own bus stop). One word of caution, the bus schedule is limited and is not 24-hours. Please make sure to check the timetables and transit times. Driving at night is discouraged because its in the middle of a national park, and its very dark and alot of curves. There will be a 300YEN per person charged for hot spring tax during checkout. WIFI is available.

Will definetely book again in the future.

This established inn dates back to the Meiji era. While the current building isn't original, it's essentially a *ryokan* (traditional Japanese inn), despite being branded as a hotel.

Surrounded by forest, it's a welcome relief that the rooms remain cool enough in summer even without air conditioning. However, the high humidity in the rooms and the numerous steps throughout the property, a result of its various extensions, are disappointing.

The hot spring baths offer a spacious and wonderfully atmospheric, rustic charm.

In the lobby, there's a book called 'Kose Monogatari' (Kose Tales), which recounts true stories of this place and features illustrations of the building. It was fascinating to learn about the ambiance of the era when the inn was first established.

The vintage phone in the room, used to notify guests when meals are ready, has an extremely loud ringtone that makes me jump every time.

A newly renovated, charming traditional hotel offering excellent service. The breakfast and dinner were simple set menus, but perfectly delicious and satisfying. The private onsen was complimentary and offered a lovely ambiance; it operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so no reservations are possible. There are a few small steps, which could be a bit inconvenient if you have large luggage, but the staff are very helpful. Overall, it offers fantastic value for money, and I was thoroughly satisfied!

A lovely place to stay with an amazing private onsen available. The staff were pleasant and accommodating with my lack of Japanese. The area is a national park so entry at night is pitch black when driving in

The location is a bit remote, and there are not many people bathing in the hot springs. It is very comfortable, but the hotel is very unique and has a traditional hot spring feel. The hotel staff are very friendly. When I walked to the front desk, the staff immediately served us. 👍

The hot springs are great. There are separate hot springs for men and women 24 hours a day. You can take a dip if you want.
You can also reserve an open-air bath for families or couples to enjoy together.
It's a pity that the transportation is not convenient. If you don't drive by yourself,
You have to wait for the bus to go to the city or surrounding attractions
