Great service, very hospitable considering we spoke no Japanese.
Rooms are a bit older, meals were great.
Would definitely return.

The hotel's location, being on a mountaintop, wasn't bad, and a stream flowing down from the mountain right next to the hotel made it quite pleasant. However, the room I stayed in was Japanese-style, and the toilet and bathroom were quite old and uncomfortable. I could hear people yelling while I was sleeping, whether from the room next door or above, which wasn't ideal. The large bath was spacious and comfortable, with a great view. There was also a small open-air bath connected to the large bath, which would have been nice if I had spent more time there, but even though it was short, it was enjoyable.

The hotel where I was staying had a boiler malfunction, so I kindly borrowed the bath at this nearby hotel. The changing room and bath were spacious, and there were lockers that could be locked. I stretched my arms and legs out in the bath, and after the bath, I massaged my feet with the free foot massage machine to relieve my fatigue. There were some school trip students there, so I thought this hotel caters to groups. Souvenirs were on sale at the shop.

Good points: - It was fresh to be able to eat seafood and salt-grilled sweetfish around the hearth. The meat we ordered as an extra was very tasty. Bad points: - It was a midsummer day, so the air conditioner was turned on but stopped after a while. "We've turned off the air conditioner in the entire building. The outside air will cool down in about an hour..." was the reply. - When we went to the large public bath around 8:30pm, we bumped into a Chinese tour group. As there were no signs in other languages, we saw the following behaviour: - They brought smartphones to the outdoor bath, occupied the outdoor bath with six people for over 30 minutes, left the shower and taps running (they went around turning them off), and got into the bathtub.

The room was nice and spacious.
The meal was kaiseki cuisine, plentiful and delicious.
The staff members also responded politely and seemed to do their best.
I would definitely like to come if I have a chance.

On the middle day of the three-day holiday, the coronavirus pandemic had officially ended, and all the hotels were trying to recover the losses they had incurred from the coronavirus by setting ridiculously high prices. However, I found a reasonable price of 11,400 yen per person including two meals on the internet and stayed there for the first time. The website was very clean and I had high expectations, but in reality, as other reviews said, it felt like a resort hotel with strong traces of the Showa era. This was especially true in the entrance, front desk, and lobby. The room I stayed in was an old-style Japanese-style room, and cleaning and maintenance were not perfect. The large hot spring bath was in a separate building, quite far away, but as soon as I moved to the separate building, it was made of modern concrete with art works hanging on it, suggesting that it was built much later than the main building. The outdoor bath was a small bath that could fit 4-5 people, but the indoor bath was spacious and open. The best thing about this hotel was the food. As they sang irori cooking at night, I was able to enjoy a sufficient amount and a variety of dishes. I also had the pleasure of cooking on the hearth myself, so I enjoyed my meals. However, the rice was dry and not tasty at all, which made me think that maybe they cooked it at the wrong time or with the wrong amount of water, which was the only disappointing thing. The breakfast was also very varied, and I was very satisfied with the food. Tateshina is a seasonal resort, so the accommodation is clearly divided into "winners" and "losers," and to be honest, there are many parts of the building and equipment that are not well maintained, and some parts are noticeably dilapidated, but this accommodation seems to be "trying hard." Considering the cost-performance ratio of the accommodation fee, service, room, bath, and above all, the food, I think it is a satisfying accommodation. It is okay to pay a high accommodation fee, so it is not suitable for people looking for modern cleanliness.

Perfect 2 night stay, the staff where very welcoming! We are foreigners from Australia and wanted to get into the depth of Japan and stay true Ryokan. This experience was fantastic for us, even with little to no Japanese vocabulary we managed.

Its easier to take a Taxi from Chino Station rather than the bus, we couldn't really understand the timetable.. and the staff arranged a Taxi for us upon departure.

Food is traditional style local Japan mountain cuisine and done well. It was a different experience and we enjoyed that.

I wish I took more photos of the room and outdoor hot bath. You will just have to experience it for yourself!

Thank you!

An indigo themed hotel that is centered around Japanese traditional meals with produces from a nearby mountain village

The Japanese traditional course meal is served using seasonal vegetables, such as mountain vegetables in the spring time, highland vegetables in the summer, and mushrooms in the fall.
During lunch hours, you can have a smaller traditional Japanese course meal. How about eating this course meal with someone special for an anniversary? Only here, in Tateshina, we offer a special and natural atmosphere.

It was an undisputed hospitality. It seemed to be busy during the year-end and New Year holidays, but above all.
The room was spacious and relaxed with a kotatsu, and the hot spring became smooth and smooth.
Not only was the food delicious, but the taste was not too strong, and the soup salt plum was particularly excellent.
