Guest House Atagoya in Kyoto

The price is a bit high, but the location is great, not far from the train station and close to all the tourist attractions. It's a guesthouse with shared bathrooms and showers. The rooms are in a ryokan style, clean and well-equipped. The downside is the narrow and steep stairs, not suitable for large suitcases. The staff are kind, lovely, attentive, and helpful, providing recommendations for places to visit and restaurants. They are easy to contact. It's ideal for staying overnight to take photos in the morning and evening after day-trippers have left, as the surrounding area is quiet and peaceful.

Cleanliness: It was tidy and there was nothing to complain about.

Location: The location is excellent as it is near the station, and it is also convenient for getting to other tourist attractions nearby.

Service: Upon arrival, the host recommended everything from nearby restaurants to great eateries, which was really nice. In addition, everyone was kind when answering questions or providing guidance!

Facilities: The room size is decent, but it felt a bit cramped considering the building as a whole, which was a shame. Aside from it being a little cold at night, the facilities are decent enough for a stay.

AMAZING LOCATION
If you’re looking for an authentic tatami mat stay with easy access to great food and local experiences - and don’t mind sharing a bathroom with other guests - we highly recommend this place! Our young kids absolutely loved it and said it was their favorite stay of the trip. As early risers, we enjoyed morning walks to Lawsons for coffee and snacks before heading out for the day. We were able to walk easily to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest multiple times, as well as Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple and Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, all of which I highly recommend visiting. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to others.

This cozy accommodation is a 3-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station (according to Google).
It's easy to find, the host is friendly, and the accommodation is a wonderful blend of cozy Japanese style and convenient modern amenities.
I enjoyed sleeping on the fluffy futon in the tatami room, and the room was conveniently accessible with a key card.
I stayed in a room on the first floor, near the shared kitchen and bathroom.
If there weren't many other guests, it's a great location, as you might have the entire first floor to yourself. However, if there are a lot of other guests and you're sensitive to noise, you might be concerned.
However, I would definitely stay on the first floor if I were to visit again. It was the off-season, so I enjoyed the luxurious first-floor experience completely.
The only disappointment I had was the lack of a mirror in the room, but other than that, I loved it perfectly.
The bathroom is close, but I wish there was a mirror in the room for things like applying makeup. I may have just missed it. I visited Arashiyama a few years ago for an izakaya I'd been to, and I'd love to return for the shops and sightseeing spots the host recommended.
I also want to share this wonderful stay with a friend.

This stay at your hotel was a unique and wonderful travel experience.
Although I don't speak Japanese, your detailed guidance made my stay smooth. At 10 PM, I forgot my room card in the room and contacted you, and you promptly returned to open the door for me. I also lost my transportation card, so I contacted you via WeChat. You promptly found it at the Lawson store where I was shopping, printed out my card, and delivered it to me at the station. Even when I was panicking, you patiently directed me to the bus station.

Kenji was a very nice host and his "guest house English" speaking was wonderful!! It is a perfect location if you are looking to wake up early and walk to the bamboo forest, you can be one of the first people there. Kenji also gave us recommendations of places to visit in the area that you otherwise may not have known about.

The host was amazing. He contacted us to see what time to expect us. Whenever we walked up he was at the door to welcome us and show us around. We loved everything about our stay. Now understand that this is a traditional Japanese home. My family enjoyed the experience. We were a nice 15 minute walk to the bamboo Forest, a short walk to several dining options, cafe for coffee and a Lawson for convenience. We loved getting out of the hustle and bustle of the big cities for the night. I wish we would have planned to stay longer.

I have never had a better experience. The place was incredibly welcoming and spotless. I would definitely go again. They even ran to the train station to bring us a small sock we had forgotten. Thank you so, so much!

The transportation is very convenient. It is right next to Saga Arashiyama Station. It takes 3 minutes to get off the bus. It is also very close to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest Trail. In short, it is very convenient. The boss is also very nice and the room is very clean! This is a store I will stay at next time I come here
