I chose to stay at Pocket Hotel near Gojo Subway Station for my cherry blossom viewing trip in Kyoto. We stayed at this hotel during for two nights. 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station. The room is small, but quite clean. Friendly staff all time, no issue during our stay. Breakfast has a small but pleasant selection of food, including self cooking noodle bar and curry rice. I also noticed that they change some menu items daily. This property is good money worth choice.

The reception was very warm; there was even a Russian-speaking staff member who gave us detailed information about the hotel's surroundings. Thanks to him, we were able to find perhaps the best cento of our trip. The room's downsides included the windows not opening, the combined bathroom and shower, and short blankets. Me and a friend stayed for two nights as we wanted to explore areas of the Kansai region. It was such a nice experience! We didn’t end up trying the public baths, so I can’t comment on that, but the room itself and the futons were great ^^ When I think walkable, it may be different to someone else’s walkable, but transport (bus) is okay to get around— it is pretty busy though so take at your own caution...

This is an old local guesthouse. While the facilities aren't on par with a star hotel, its value for money is excellent. The rooms feature a tatami-style futon right on the floor, and there's also a small public hot spring bath. Overall, highly recommended!

It's the best place I've stayed in all of Japan. They have two rooms, and I stayed in the larger one, which has two single beds. Everything was super comfortable and I highly recommend it. The family who runs it is incredibly nice.

The hotel is located right outside the Otsu Station ticket gates. Entering the property is through the attached bar and restaurant. Most of the nearby restaurants seem to close around 11pm. There are no cooking utensils, but you can bring your own food and drink in the common areas. There are also pots and water dispensers, so we were able to eat cup ramen inside the hotel.
