Hostel SHYMBULAK in Almaty

It was an unforgettable experience! At a very reasonable price, we were able to stay in the mountains and enjoy the swimming pool, sauna, and complimentary breakfast.

The restaurant in the hotel was also excellent. We enjoyed shashlik and beer there, and everything was delicious. The breakfast was wonderful as well.

A true hidden gem that seems to be known mostly by locals and is seriously underrated by tourists. The atmosphere is fantastic, the music is great, and the service is exceptional. The food is absolutely delicious—every dish was outstanding. The place has a unique nostalgic charm that reminds me a bit of the Soviet era, making the experience even more special. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This place was great! We had lots of fun! But for the service one person took one star away because when we were skiing my daughter and her friend had a ski instructor that was very rude and when my daughter fell down he kept shouting at her to get up she fell on the escalator she got up but then the escalator started and she didn’t have balance yet so she fell again and he kept shouting at her to get up

We stayed at Shymbulak Hotel with our family for four days and truly loved the experience. The hotel is very cute—nothing fancy, but with a unique and charming style that makes it feel special. The staff were amazing: extremely polite, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The only small downside was that it felt a bit too warm at night because the heating system runs continuously.

Breakfast was buffet style with a limited selection, but there were still enough good options to enjoy a decent meal. The hotel restaurant is very cozy, and we especially loved the outdoor hot pool, which was clean and perfect for relaxing after skiing. The sauna area is also very nice, and there is a relaxing room where you can prepare tea and unwind after the sauna, which we really enjoyed.

The location is perfect—directly on the slope, making everything very convenient.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely come back again.

We visited Shymbulak Resort for skiing, and it turned out to be a very nice and cozy place to stay. The resort has all the necessary arrangements for skiing, which made the experience very convenient and hassle-free. It is also located very close to the ski institute as well as the practice run, making it ideal for beginners and families. We visited in December 2025

The restaurant was excellent, offering a good variety of both Western and local dishes, all of which were delicious and comforting after a day on the slopes.

A special mention to Daniel, who was always ready to help and went out of his way to assist us, even with our ski gear. His warmth and helpful nature truly enhanced our stay.

Overall, a wonderful resort with great facilities and hospitality. Highly recommended for a skiing holiday.

The location was amazing.
The people were really friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We were able to get an English speaking ski instructor ( from the ski school) who was very patient.
I would advise if you want an instructor to try book early because the skiing area does close at 5.

Shymbulak Resort is the perfect winter stay—cozy, stylish, and surrounded by amazing mountain views. The ski instructors were friendly and professional, and breakfast had a great variety with stunning views from the restaurant’s big windows.

We were especially happy to meet two of the friendliest hotel staff, Niyaz and Olzhas. Their warmth and kindness made us feel so comfortable—it truly added to the joy of our holiday. Can’t wait to come back next winter!

We visited Shymbulak Resort in April 2024 and had an amazing experience. The scenery was stunning, and the whole atmosphere felt peaceful and refreshing.

The ski instructors were professional and friendly, making us feel safe and confident even as beginners. The resort staff were also incredibly kind and helpful—special thanks to Olzhas and Niyaz, who were especially warm and welcoming. Their hospitality made a big difference and truly enhanced our stay.

Breakfast at the resort was also fantastic! There was a great variety of dishes, and everything tasted fresh and delicious. The restaurant’s location was perfect—with huge windows offering breathtaking views of the mountains. Sitting there with a warm meal and such a view was simply unforgettable.

We would absolutely love to come back next winter. Shymbulak is highly recommended for anyone looking for a beautiful and memorable winter escape!

Very nice hotel, comfortable bed, our room had a nice balcony with a view of the mountains. Hotel staffs are very responsive for any queries you may have. The guy at the reception was very nice and explained everything to us upon checkin and offered us discount vouchers for the ski pass. The hotel restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with it's delicious food. The ski school is just next to the hotel with good ski instructors. We really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely come back.
