Casa Kookay Hotel in Tulum

food was decent but we saw our server once to order and then never saw her again. every time we needed service we had to go find someone. we were completely forgotten about.

Unfortunately success seems to have gone to the head of Casa Jaguar. What had been recommended as a Tulum staple turned out to be a mediocre outfit, resting on the laurels of its former glory. Cocktails were passable but not spectacular, food a bit hit and miss (catch of the day was a beautiful bit of fish, lovingly grilled but tough, tasteless prawns and gristly overcooked steak let the side down somewhat). Most disappointing was the reluctant, inhospitable service - dishes were forgotten but billed, with no apologies.

There are better places on the beach road.

Gorgeous Tulum.vibed restaurants. Bo-ho, filled with candle lights, great atmosphere. Upon our entrance, my friends scarf literally caught on fire (as I said, there were little votives everywhere!) Luckily, the manager saw us putting it out and immediately offered a round of Mezcal. That was a nice gesture. The place is adorable but definitely rustic. The chairs had old nails sticking out -- I pointed it out to the young hostess and she didn't do anything about it. In fact, one if them damaged my daughter's leggings. So, yes, we were not very lucky in terms of our wardrobe. Overall, the food was decent (I ordered the lamb dish, and I expected more balance between the protein and the accompanying vegetables,) I tried my husband's BBQ ribs, and found it a bit lacking. My drink was interesting and well prepared (a Mezcal drink with jalapeno.) Even though it wasn't on the menu, they made a quesadilla for my child, definitely an accommodating touch. This is a casual place with a romantic secret-garden-like flair. I think it's most appropriate for couples.
