Friendly staff and nice refreshing pool. Breakfast has good quantity; quality is okay. In general, a good stay!

You'll have to be very fit to stay at this hotel, steep hill to and from the hotel. No transport provided up to the hotel with all your luggage, we are a retired couple and there was no warning about a steep climb, especially when you're dropped off at the bottom with all your luggage. Hotel itself is nice but wouldn't stay here again because of the very steep climb.

Extended the stay for an extra day as soon as we arrived. Great room with a big bed and great breakfast also.

Avoid this hotel if you value sleep or basic customer service. We were put in room 301, which is directly beside a fire escape stairwell. Housekeeping used this staircase constantly throughout the day, dragging heavy carts on wheels up and down. The noise was relentless and completely unacceptable, starting around 9am and continuing until about 6pm every single day. Rest was impossible. We raised this issue repeatedly with reception, including with Luis, and nothing was done. No room change, no meaningful attempt to resolve it, not even an acknowledgement of how disruptive it was. Just polite nodding and zero action. The hotel is very strict when it comes to enforcing its payment and no-cancellation policy within 14 days, yet shows little interest in honouring guests once they have your money. That is not customer service. Our flight was delayed by an extra day and under normal circumstances we would have stayed on. Instead, we could not wait to leave. The hotel itself is dated, tired, and poorly managed, but the worst part by far is the complete lack of care for guests. Awful experience from start to finish. Absolutely unacceptable.

The Mimosa is 1 of 3 Dorisol hotels and is the furthest away from where the coach drops you off. As with all of Madeira there is quite an incline to drag your cases up to reach the Mimosa. Apparently they do offer a golf cart shuttle if you're willing to wait a while. The problem I had was the noise. I did email the hotel a week before arrival requesting a quiet room preferably on a high floor, this didnt work! I started with room 508. The hotel is metres away from a busy road, where loud motorbikes and other vehicles can be heard inside the room with all doors shut. There is no soundproofing at all, and you can hear everything in the corridors and adjacent rooms. I asked to move rooms away from the road but they put me in room 402 - right next to the fire exit that all the cleaners use to wheel trolleys in and out. They wedge the fire door open which allows all the road noise into the corridors. I'm sure the reception staff knew this when they moved me - maybe a punishment for asking to move!! My new room key also did not work, this meant dragging luggage back to reception to get the key sorted. I had to use ear plugs every night just to sleep. During the day is also difficult to sleep due to the cleaners and maintenance staff making noise. The Mimosa has reasonable facilities which are functional but tired. The 1st room I had did not have hot water in the sink, there were gaps in the laminate flooring etc. The outdoor pool was freezing - worse than the sea! The indoor pool was nice. The food at breakfast was never hot, even when I was there at the 0730 opening time, it was luke warm at best. If I had to stay here again it would need to be in the Buganvilla. I will never stay in the Mimosa again.

The indoor pool was closed for renovations and there was construction in the hallway, resulting in a lot of noise from 8 am. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked. The cleaning staff was very friendly. Climbing the 130 steps to reach the hotel at the end of the day was tiring.

We visited the Dorisol Mimosa Hotel 3-10 October with my 85 year old father. Although clean and tidy, the indoor pool was closed for maintenance. Upon arrival, we found that the buggy carrying guests up the considerably steep hill was broken with no mention or communication of either from TUI or indeed the hotel. This when we enquired as to when the vehicle would be repaired & asked for assistance with my fathers suitcase, was treated with dismissive indifference. Would we use this hotel again? The answer is categorically NO!! , there are better hotels within a similar price range, offering a much better attitude service that go the extra mile.

We stayed at Mimosa Studio Hotel for 7 nights. Upon arrival, we were first given a room on the ground floor with a view of the hotel entrance, which was not what we had requested. Since I had booked specifying a higher floor with an ocean view, we immediately spoke with the reception. The staff were very understanding and promised to move us, and within 2 days we were relocated to the 10th floor with a beautiful ocean view. From then on, everything matched our expectations perfectly – the room was just as we had hoped for. Housekeeping was done daily, the room was always clean, and fresh towels were provided. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Regarding food, we had half board (breakfast and dinner), and for a 3-star hotel, the choice and quality were excellent. The waiters were polite and attentive. One small suggestion: it would be nice to have a net or some kind of protection on the terrace where guests dine, as pigeons sometimes flew very close to the tables. The hotel facilities were very good – a nice pool with an ocean view, a tennis court, and a gym. Wi-Fi was available throughout the entire property, which was very convenient. The location is also convenient: shops, restaurants, and car rental companies are nearby. Within about 10 minutes’ walk, you reach Praia do Gorgulho - Gavinas beach. Parking is mostly paid around hotels, but in my case, the rental company provided me with garage parking, which was very convenient. Overall, this was a pleasant and comfortable stay, with great value for a 3-star hotel.

The dining room -I was there for the breakfast- is an old one, not so inviting. The breakfast-selection is not so good, as a vegan or vegetarian you can't choose much (only beans & bread), the coffee is okay but not tasty, the juices are not fresh & sugary.
There is no big pot for cooking, for two persons it would be good to have one.
The bed is good, the fan does its job, the bathroom is big enough, the balcony practical.
The location is near to the busline, 30min to walk to the center & there is the Lido promenade (with some places to swim) to the next small city with a small light tunnel for pedestrians, there you can hear/see the surf :)
The opening times for the pool are too late in the morning and too short (8.00-20.00).
The female staff at the reception with the glasses (saturday evening), didn't manage my wake-up-call for the next morning (the staff at this day showed me that he had no notice for a call), thats not a good one, because sometimes you have to depend on it.

Well, Philippe certainly knows how to feed you. Try the fish , the best selection on Madeira.

Always goog for a laugh, that's if you are broad minded, have eaten here for years and hopefuĺly will be able to do so for years to come, thats if the results of the UK elections don't cock it up.

Pretentious and bad value proposition compared to local alternatives (apparently the prices used to be significantly lower)... waited an hour for the starters which were mediocre and the main course swordfish was overcooked and dry, coffee was capsule based etc., wines were good though, current prices are 50-80 EUR/person/2-3 course meal incl. drinks

Been here several times - brilliant food and run by one of the nicest men you will ever meet. Wednesday is the day to remember as its meat lovers night - booking essential. When we are on holiday here we always look forward to our meals here.
