Reviews
We recommend upgrading to the sea view rooms. Ours was in 8th floor and the view from the balcony was amazing.
Full points well deserved, especially for the price compared to others in the area!
Apart from that, what I can say about this hotel is that we had nothing but positives to mention during our stay. The rooms were of a decent size and cleaned daily. A nice veranda complimented the room and proved ideal to sit on an early evening people watching. The cleaners were very friendly and very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Each morning we had a breakfast with so much choice and opportunity to sit in a variety of both indoor and outdoor positions. I would actually go as far as to say that the breakfast here is unmatched in any hotel we have stayed at in many a year; absolutely superb. Once again, the breakfast staff were first class. Any request being quickly attended .....with a smile.
We used both the indoor and outdoor pools several times during our stay; my preference outdoor, my wife's indoor. Both pools were at a pleasant temperature. We like to enjoy the sea when in Madeira but due to inclement weather, it was not actually possible as the lido areas were closed and the sea was very rough. Oh well.
The evening entertainment was a broad mix throughout the week. Some we enjoyed, some not so much. We always however enjoy the local folk singing/dancing, all washed down with a Guinness from the bar.
The hotel location was OK but on balance we would have preferred being a little closer to Funchal. We did however take advantage of the free shuttle to and from Funchal. We also walked into Funchal once and returned on foot one evening. A lovely walk actually. We would have done more walking but the weather was against us this time so the shuttle and taxis were our preferred means of getting around. A taxi (Bolt) being only 5 euro each way.
A special mention to the boss of the breakfast team as he went over and above in providing as much help and assistance with a wheelchair and much much more to my wife and her busted leg. Unfortunately I can not remember his name. A special mention also to the girls at reception who were always there with a smile. Thanks
The location is fantastic with great sea views, close to Funchal, bus stop outside the hotel, restaurants in the proximity. Happy to return next time when in Madeira.
Spacious rooms, huge balconies. Cool varied breakfast with champagne. The hotel has many beautiful photo zones with views of the ocean and the sunrise! Luxurious terrace! Outdoor pool and jacuzzi are not with ice water, we went in the winter without any problems. In the indoor pool, the water is much warmer, but there is a strong smell of chlorine.
Upon arrival, they give out cards for a welcome drink at the bar located in the lobby. It was nice.
Once we went to dinner, which is served as a buffet. But we did not like it. It was not as tasty as we would have liked.
The only negative we found was paid parking in the underground garage! Why not make parking free for guests?
But, I must admit, for a 4 - go stars Hotel is very good! I recommend!
I was informed by hotel staff through email that parking is 10 euros at night. But the front desk tells me its 13. Then they tell me they surcharge for EVERYTHING other than breakfast. If you want towels or robes, they charge you to rent those. They charge you each night to use the in room safe. What is it they don't charge for? A matter of fact... they offer me a complimentary welcome drink at the bar. I ask if I can get bottled water, and the bartender says the welcome drink can only be alcoholic! ***? You mean to tell me that water is a more expensive overhead for the hotel than alcohol?
The final straw for me was when overcharged me for using the sauna. Yes, they charge for using the sauna or Turkish Bath too... It was supposed to be 5 euros per person, so we should have paid 10. And they charged me 14 instead.
There is an older woman at the front desk who is particularly not helpful. I don't know why anyone would want to stay here when they nickel and dime you A la carte for EVERYTHING. The only positive thing I can mention about this place other than the location, is the breakfast. I will give them credit for serving very healthy and tastey food in the morning, but that's about it.
