Metropolitan YMCA Singapore in Singapore

My son and his mum has been staying here and I joined my son occasionally. Except for the helpful and friendly Front staffs, Andrew and Karen, the rest of the other management team hiding inside their offices are the vilest and most hostile employees in this establishment. Unprofessional. No greetings from the woman who confronted me about bringing outside food into the hotel premises!? No greetings, No Hello. She just march right up to me then started chastising me and vehemently rebutted me. She complained to Karen about my presence and spared no expense screeching outside the lobby to let me hear her displeasure.
Subsequently, all the other management staffs were notified of my presence and one by one they came out of their office just to antagonise me! They sure made it very personal and it sure felt personal, disingenuous and contumelious!
I left and my son would never grace YMCA Stevens again, such shamelessly unprofessional and hostile management staffs!
Father and son definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this place.

It's one of the strangest things, having a hotel being openly antagonistic towards its guests, but that's how Metropolitan YMCA has positioned itself in its policies and customer service.

There's no consumption of food or drinks in the hotel lobby, despite the fact that it sells food and drinks in the hotel lobby, and serves coffee and tea via a dispenser, also (you've guessed it) in the hotel lobby. The staff I had the pleasure of speaking to, assured me that it was because that it was a public area and they did not want smells to disrupt the guests utilising their table area. A table area which was designed for guest use with electrical sockets built into a nice frame, but under lock and key, which can be opened for a measly $12 SGD per hour if you ever find yourself in need of a charging port for your laptop or handphone.

And you will notice that all these microtransactions are built into the hotel's guise of 'green' and 'eco-conservatism', but is simply a masquerade with the hopes of bilking as much as possible from your stay. Adequate room service? A nominal fee of SGD$20, otherwise your beds won't be made and your towels won't be changed except every three days. Shoddy laundromat with exorbitant charges? Check. Bad and damaged amenities in the rooms? Check.

The best part is that these rules, the eating in the lobby, the charging for power usage in a common area meant for guests and the fact that you have to pay extra for daily housekeeping are not displayed on any clear signages, or on the booking page for the hotel. So it's only when you have had the misfortune of footing the bill after your confirmation that you will realise that it's caveat emptor. And this dreadful realisation comes not-so-subtly in the constant hounding from their inadequate, and unprofessional customer service staff, who will pester you for every perceived infarction but disappear at the sign of any request you might attempt to make.

The location's great though, so if you just need some glorified space to park your bags while you explore downtown Singapore, this should do in a pinch. But don't expect anything more.
