Reviews
The hotel's location was superb, within walking distance to many restaurants and East Coast Park. It's a vibrant, lively neighborhood.
Breakfast offered made-to-order hot dishes and coffee, alongside a self-serve buffet with noodles, rice vermicelli, bread, and Western options. For hot food, over three days, I tried waffles, scrambled eggs with sautéed mushrooms, and an omelet, all of which were good. Among the cold options, the oatmeal was my favorite, served adorably in small glass jars. There were four types of juice, each in individual glass bottles, and a juicer was available to make fresh orange juice. While the food selection wasn't extensive, it was refined and high-quality. The restaurant, Baba Chews, is housed in a renovated historic building.
On the 16th-floor rooftop, there's a small pool and gym. Working out while overlooking rows of residential houses was quite pleasant.
Then there's the hotel itself. The decor has a very traditional local character, which echoes the Peranakan Heritage Street right across from the hotel, also featuring traditional local architectural styles. Overlooking Peranakan Heritage Street from our room through the floor-to-ceiling windows felt like being transported to Singapore in the early 20th century. More importantly, this hotel boasts one of my personal favorite advantages: the soundproofing is superb (at least in my room this time). We initially noticed a market right below the hotel, which seemed quite noisy. As someone highly sensitive to noise, I was initially a bit worried about whether the room would be noisy. To my pleasant surprise, even though our room was directly above the market, we couldn't hear a single sound. This shows that the sound insulation of the windows is really excellent. Moreover, during our stay, we barely heard any noise from neighboring rooms or the hallway. If you frequently stay in hotels, you'd know that the most common noise is the opening and closing of doors from other rooms in the hallway, which most hotels can't avoid. Sometimes, when people slam doors, it can be quite annoying. So, this was my first time staying in a room where I couldn't even hear other rooms' doors opening and closing, which indicates that the wall and door insulation is also very good. Therefore, for friends who, like me, appreciate quiet, I highly recommend this hotel. Additionally, the hotel has a rooftop open-air bar, a pool, and a gym. Going up in the evening for a drink, chatting with friends, and enjoying the night view is incredibly pleasant.
Another major advantage of this hotel is the breakfast—it's absolutely fantastic. Friends staying at this hotel definitely need to get the breakfast; it's truly amazing. They have a wide array of Western buffet options and local specialties, along with plenty of drinks and fruits. The most unique aspect is that the breakfast is semi-buffet style; besides the self-serve items, there's a special menu each day featuring several different local dishes that you can order endlessly. Most of the dishes taste great, some even surprisingly good. We've tried similar dishes at outside restaurants during our stay, and very few were of a higher standard than here. As hotel breakfast goes, it's superb. And the restaurant is also open for dinner; we tried it once and it was equally good. Two out of the three dishes we ordered were even better than those at the National Gallery restaurant. To be honest, though, the cocktails were a bit lacking, but then again, the cocktails we had at various bars and hotels during our stay were all pretty average. The beer, however, was quite good; I recommend ordering beer.
Finally, I'd like to thank the lady who handled our check-out; I apologize for forgetting her name. The hotel room cards are uniquely made of wood, and I wanted one as a souvenir, which she very kindly gave to us. All in all, this hotel was one of the best experiences of our entire trip to Singapore.
Facilities: Has everything you need, just not high-end.
Cleanliness: So-so, but generally not bad in Singapore.
Ambiance: So-so, no need to go out of your way to stay here.
Service: Barely any service.
From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was immersed in a strong Nanyang (Southeast Asian) ambiance. The vintage patterned tiles, the relaxed vibe of the rattan furniture, and the old photographs on the walls instantly transported me back to Katong's past. Yet, modern design touches were subtly integrated, preventing it from feeling outdated.
Though the room wasn't huge, it was incredibly well-designed. The floor-to-ceiling windows allowed for a wonderful cascade of sunlight, and the minibar even featured local snacks. Even the toiletries were from niche brands with refreshing scents, making me feel relaxed just by smelling them before bed.
What truly surprised me was the fantastic location. In just a few minutes' walk, you can delve into Katong's old streets and alleys. After breakfast, I'd pop over to a nearby stall for some kaya toast as a snack, and in the evening, I'd stroll to East Coast Park for a breath of fresh sea air. This feeling of 'living like a local' was far more memorable than any luxurious amenities.

Food is ok but expensive compare to other bbq restaurant. We ordered jum jum set for 2 costing $40 but the portion is quite small. Total bill is 50+.
