Hotel Palia Dolce Farniente in Cala d'Or

🌍
Spain, Cala d'Or, Cala Egos, S/N

The restaurant offers a wide variety of tasty buffet dishes, often praised as better than similar resorts in Egypt or Turkey. Rooms are generally clean and spacious, with balconies and views appreciated by guests. The animation and entertainment team is energetic and provides engaging activities, especially appreciated by French-speaking guests. The hotel grounds and pool areas are regularly cleaned and maintained, including daily washing of sunbeds. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, and the location is convenient for beach access and local amenities. Many guests reported that entertainment and activities are conducted almost exclusively in French, making non-French speakers feel excluded. Cleanliness issues were noted, including presence of ants, cockroaches, and insufficient room cleaning. Room service is infrequent and of low quality; some rooms had maintenance problems like leaking air conditioning or flooding showers. Some guests experienced unfriendly or unhelpful staff attitudes, particularly towards English-speaking visitors. The all-inclusive offer has limitations, such as extra charges for cocktails and paid sun loungers on the beach.

Stayed here for 8 days. Service at reception was good, restaurant is excellent- huge variety of food and everything is tasty way better than at Egipt or Turkish 4-5 stars. The biggest minus to this hotel is for the room service - seldom and low quality. They never ever cleaned a floor (either with vacuum or mop).
In the middle of vacation ants moved in our room. Perhaps it was our fouls as soon as we left some food in the room. The hotel staff sprayed them and leaved a spay for us.
Before leaving we found a huge cockroach. Note: we lived at the ground floor
Animation was mainly for elder people, French and a bit English language

This is MY review. In the first instance it is NOT in Cala dor it’s in Cala Egos. Upon arrival at the hotel we were NOT greeted with a “ hello and welcome to this hotel “ we were greeted with “ your name “ . Not a good start. It soon come apparent that this hotel is For French Guests and NOT British. Arrived at lunch time so the room wasn’t ready which is normal. Advised to come back at 1400. Went for lunch at 1300 when the Restaurant opens. Basic food nothing special. Cold and not very appealing if I’m honest. Went back at 1400 and found our room for the 10 nights. Not what I paid for .Got a view of the French Boules area and Tennis courts. Contacted Jet2 who contacted the Hotel and they said the hotel was full and couldn’t be moved. Not happy but it is what it is. The first night our bathroom flooded due to the shower tray not being adequate so went to reception and had to use my French translator on my mobile. All sorted within 1 hour so all good . Right, Entertainment, The entertainment team or Club Jumbo as they are called work really hard BUT and it’s a BIG BUT do EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING in French. They will NOT engage in conversation with you unless you are wearing a pink AI band. We tried on many occasions to say hello but was completely ignored. We actually sat on the next table from them at the bar Nextdoor and tried to talk to them but again ignored. Didn’t bother speaking to them again. We were never asked to join in with any activities as again we were not French so us British didn’t count .Some of the French Guests were extremely rude and disrespectful and think they don’t have to line up for a drink or for food so they just push in. 98% of the French were rude and disrespectful as I said but the other 2% were polite and took some time to speak to us. We went out every night as the evening entertainment was all about the French and not us British even the darn Bingo 😂 was French . Anyway, The Rooms are cleaned to a high standard, fresh towels everyday , bedding changed every 2 days. Pool area washed and hosed down every morning including the sunbeds. The cleaning staff work very hard and so does the maintenance men. I could go on and on but I won’t. In my opinion this Hotel should NOT be sold to the British people as it’s not geared up for us. Jet2 have let themselves down. I actually spoke to a Jet2 customer service person 6 months ago about my concerns about it being a French hotel and the man I spoke to said it’s NOT French it’s British. I rest my case. Would I return to this Hotel most definitely NOT and I repeat NOT unless it’s geared up for us British NOT just the French. Shame as it’s in a good location .

Nice location, local shops, Bars & Restaurants, within walking distance of main town and beautiful Marina.
But be mindful this hotel accommodates mostly the French travellers, so language at the shows ,competitions, karaoke and other entertainment is almost purely French speaking. Didn't feel at home there, felt left out of interaction.
But if your lucky enough to be bilingual you'll over come this issue.

This could end up being a 5. We are here at the moment. All is well apart from one thing. Whilst the majority of guests here are French, the excellent animation team seem to have totally overlooked the fact that other nationalities are also here. We can't join in if we don't understand the language being constantly spoken. Please look at your demograph.

Thanks for an unforgettable holiday! I just got back from Mallorca and I still can’t get over how amazing my stay at your hotel was. From the very first moment, I felt special – every staff member greeted me with a smile, as if we were old friends or family. That warm, friendly atmosphere made me truly relax and feel… well, just exceptional! The food? Simply unbeatable! Every dish was delicious, varied, and always pleasantly surprising. On top of that, the hotel surroundings and the whole atmosphere made every day magical. I’d also like to give a big thank you to the whole Jumbo Club team – at first I was a bit shy (and I don’t speak French ), but thanks to you I discovered how much fun it is to join in. Darts, Waterbasket, bulle, archery… and the evening shows and night discos? Total hits! You made everyone feel cared for and special. Special thanks to Dj Theo sharing a Tequila on karaoke Once again, huge thanks to the whole team – this was truly one of the best holidays of my life. I hope I’ll get a chance to come back someday… and hopefully you’ll all be there too! Warm regards, Rafael “Tequila”!

First time back for 3-4 years, and it was well worth it. Few improvements have made the difference, our room, modern and light, restaurant better, and standard of food, much improved / very good. Also the entertainment pretty good and watchable.

Only a couple of little things stop me giving this a 5 star. I didn't know what to expect given the reviews but some things are pretty straightforward - you pay less, you can't expect luxury and you can't be mad at people for not speaking English.....you're not in England and we aren't superior. The Hotel - I didn't eat enough to rate this 5 out 5 but lunch had plenty of options, including vegetarian and vegan. The snack bar serving burgers, chips and hot dogs was very convenient. They also serve crepes around 4pm, but be prepared to queue as they leave one poor woman serving the whole place. I don't carry cash, so I couldn't sample the cocktails. I could only drink beer, which you serve yourself. They wouldn't charge anything to my room and seemed pretty annoyed at me asking whether it was possible (which was only once and maybe its a British thing to clarify a conversation, especially when it's not in your first language) - one older man behind the bar didn't seem to enjoy his job. It is 2025 and I would expect a hotel of this size to have access to card payments. As now in most European 3/4 star hotels, all inclusive does not mean all inclusive. One older man behind reception wasn't happy with me starting a conversation with Hola, given I'm in a Spanish country, I didn’t realise it would be so frowned upon. I did feel because I was English, he was less interested in conversing with me. The female snack bar staff, reception and cleaners were lovely. Entertainment staff are FULL of energy. ALL day. The cleaners were particularly lovely but I do feel they come too early to clean rooms. I had them checking if I was in just after 7am. The rooms were very nice, newly renovated and nice bathroom. Wifi is now free and accessible in your room. Outside the hotel - Great location. Gorgeous little beach and cove 30 seconds down the road then down some steps. Right in the centre of Cala Egos, everything is walkable. Egos was friendly enough and plenty of options to eat. Could do with a couple more bars to have a cocktail. Bumbu was expensive and staff took far too long to take an order then bring your drink. The mini train comes every hour and takes you into Cala D'or for €3. It stops around 9pm so coming back is usually a bus or taxi. It takes 5 minutes on the electric road train to the beautiful marina where there are plenty of options to eat and admire the chilled views. €7 in a taxi will get you to a gorgeous little place called Porta Petro, I ended up here by accident but it was so nice, little back streets and restaurants again by the water. I would come here again. Not bringing cash is partly my problem, but the hotel accepting card payments is not too much to ask. Easy to find a sunbed but it does get packed. Plenty of shade. Yes they speak French. It is their first line, they then try to translate to English. French guests seem to where a pink wristband and those that aren't French have blue.
