X Mirissa in Mirissa

I truly hope this review can save someone’s stay in Mirissa. The photos you see in the listing and reviews are completely misleading. The rooms and the entire property are in terrible conditions, everything is damaged, worn out, and poorly maintained. The room was absolutely filthy (even the blankets were stained). The rooms overlook what is basically a small garbage dump. On top of that, the curtains don’t even close properly, and light floods into the room as if they weren’t there at all. All the bathrooms face directly onto the corridor where people constantly walk by, offering zero privacy. Next to the shower there is a foul-smelling damp hole in the wall, with actual trash inside it. It was disgusting. The internet never worked during our entire four-day stay. We opened the mini fridge only once because it smelled so strongly of mold it was unbearable. But that’s not all. During all four days, there was almost constant power outage and no hot water most of the time. Completely unacceptable. After enduring this for days, we asked to speak to the owner (there is no real reception, just an elderly man cleaning who doesn’t speak English). When the owner arrived, he behaved like a bully, shouting at us aggressively and almost getting physical simply because we listed the problems. We were close to calling the police because of how threatening he was. We are a couple who have been traveling across Asia for years and have stayed in hundreds of hotels. We have NEVER experienced anything like this. Unfortunately, this terrible hotel and its aggressive owner completely ruined our vacation and our mood. If this review prevents even one person from making the same mistake we did, then at least something good will have come out of this awful experience.

Well this was the biggest mistake we’ve made so far in Sri Lanka.. Booked a room for 3 nights. When we arrived in the room he came in to the room to let us pay, we had our backpacks still one.. After we saw that the room was full of red ants, when we told the staff the came to check and sprayed some stuff on them. Aftel all they gave us another room, just the same room, no upgrade (all good). When we wanted to leave the door could not locked. So we asked again for help, he told us that the door was broken, I almost got the feeling that he blamed us, told him that I barely touched it. After all we were NOT happy and we didn’t want to stay any longer. I told him that we wanted to pay for one night for his help and the other two nights we wanted to get the money back. He called his boss en gave him on the phone with me, well he was VERY rude and told us to not give us our money back, he almost laughed about it cause he had the money already in the pocket. What a disgusting place. There are so many nice places with so many lovely locals, but this is not one of it. Think before booking!!

I can’t rate the stay at the hotel, but I can rate the attitude toward guests. Guests are not welcome here ( . We had booked a luxury room with a sea view. We chose this hotel specifically for that room. Upon arrival, we were told that our room was occupied that day and that we could check in the next day after the other guests checked out. They offered us two rooms instead of one, overlooking the inner courtyard. We immediately said that this option didn’t work for us and that we wanted the room we had booked, but we were refused. We decided not to stay at this hotel. Also, note that the staff is unfriendly and gloomy. There were three of us girls, and communicating with the staff, who barely spoke English, made us feel uneasy. We were worried about leaving our belongings unattended, and we felt a sense of danger and threat from the staff. In the end, we were glad it turned out this way.

Upon pur arrival we were told the room we had booked was unavailable and that we had been upgraded to tje room I hadn't wanted as it was floor to ceiling glass with no curtains. After a lot of duscusso we accepted the room when they added sheets to the windows. The bedroom had air conditioning the living room only had a fan so waa unusable..Apparently no other rooms were available! We were told to pay and then cancel the reservation with Bookings.com. obviously a scam. The building was not full. This is a homestay, not a hotel. In the four days we received no house keeping services nothing was replenished or emptied, including the toilet paper bin.. The workmanship through the property is dreadful the communal area is hot and filthy . Our room was clean upon arrival but not cleaned during our stay. I am onky giving this place two stars as the bed was comfortable, the shower waa great and the view from the balcony was lovely. Its really not worth tje price, I would avoid the whole place, especially room 303. I cannot believe the reviews on Bookings.com are genuine.

The hotel looks good, but the service very unpleasent. We stayed 3 nights, We askedthe staff to clean the rooms more than 5 times and it didnt happen. The woman at the reception lied in my face that they cleaned the rooms but the true is they did not. Ill never come back to this place.

It's not even a hotel, not far from the beach but the lane is shady and difficult for a normal car to enter the lane and come back. It's like a cave.

They Don't have staff except one 65 years old hotel manager who blames the Colombo office or Sri Lanka govt for the problems. He tries to help but doesn't have resources. Others are one housekeeping lady & one other old staff who are mostly unavailable.

For Everything you need you have to contact Owner Roshan who doesn't answer 95% of your calls. On raising issues and on telling him that i'm going to give a review of all these, he threatened me and abused all indian travellers.

There are huge power cuts and they don't have backup. Even if there is no power cut, it becomes scary after it goes dark. At the entrance there is no light, reception has just a table lamp that too is switched off after 9:45pm and manager leaves. you have to use your own torch to take a step towards your room.

This place doesn't have a lift and you have to carry your luggage to a higher floor and the so-called restaurant or eating place is on the rooftop (5 floor).

Restaurant is not operational and if you have booked with breakfast then the person goes to a nearby shop to pick it. Breakfast is very ordinary and not worth price. If need cold water or ice, manager will run local neighbour and you might be lucky if you get something you asked for. Forget Iron/Hair/Dryer/Clean soap & shampoo bottles.

Rooms look good in the picture but don't have basic amenities like hooks to hang clothes in the bathroom. Bathroom doors don't have knobs and have old rusty latches(you might hurt yourself while using them). Doors have simple plywood with gaps(no privacy).

Curtain on upper floors rooms doesn't allow privacy, locals can sneakin from gaps. Carry some clips to stitch them.

This was worst stay in sri lanka trip. Stayed for 2 nights and on 1st day we were given wrong room(budget). We were told to cancel it from agoda and they will reduce LKR10000(i.e. the difference amount). As we were told this on the day the check in, cancellation window expired they reduced the amount to LKR 4000 which means we paid almost the same amount.

Sri Lanka is going through a problem and such hospitality turned those 2 nights into a nightmare. On the checkout day we left the hotel as early as possible(this was the best of 2 nights,all thanks to our driver.)
