We had a truly wonderful experience here. Mr. Amila and Ms. Sandamali made our stay exceptional, even arranging a special cheesecake for my husband’s birthday at almost no cost. The room was spotless, spacious, and located on the second floor, offering a direct view of the beach.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Although the international breakfast buffet had a limited selection, every item was delicious. Additionally, the location is excellent—just a 5-minute drive from Coconut Tree Hill and 20 minutes from the Sacred Beach in Mirissa. The area is surrounded by great restaurants, making it a fantastic value for money.

The only drawback is that there’s no direct beach access, and we had to go to Somerset Jungle to use a swimming pool.

Poor to very poor quality rooms for the 369 $ they charged me for 2 nights this was the biggest disappointed ever in my travel history . Breakfast was pathetic with rude staff , the whole infrastructure of the hotel is not 1 star also and for reason they are priced at this range is a mystery and feels like a super conman job the way it’s listed . Please don’t waste your money on this property

We stayed for two nights at the Somerset Beach Hotel. On arrival we were greeted by several staff members, and our bags were kindly carried up the stairs to our room. The room was spacious, bright, clean, air-conditioned, and had a lovely sea view. The bed was also beautifully decorated, which was a nice touch. Although the hotel is located right on the beachfront, there’s no direct beach access as shown in some photos. However, Turtle Bay is only a two-minute walk away and is a great spot for snorkelling with tropical fish and turtles. The hotel was extremely quiet during our stay—we only noticed two other couples the entire time. Breakfast was pleasant on both mornings, with a good amount of choice, and the server was polite. Our main criticism is the lobby restaurant. The issue wasn’t the food, but the ambience: it felt dark and uninviting, especially compared to the rest of the bright building. A simple refresh with lighter paint could really help draw people in for dinner, especially since it’s advertised as a seafood restaurant (although we didn’t see anyone dining there during our stay). Overall, a pleasant stay in a great location, but not memorable.

I liked the hotel, it is located some distance from the beach, you need to go up the hill, but it is quiet and calm there. Great view from the window. Friendly staff. I liked everything, thank you!

🏨 Hotel Review: Somerset Mirissa, Sri Lanka
Personal Rating System: All scores are out of 10 (0 = very poor, 10 = excellent)

✅ Location –7/10
Very well-located, right next to the beach.

Note: Despite the claim of direct beach access, it doesn’t have private entry—you’ll need to use public paths.
Has continuous generator sound throughout the day which will stop at 12a.m or so.

No sea view from the hotel itself.

Centrally located with well-lit, active streets even late at night.

🛏️ Rooms – 6/10
Spacious and decently comfortable.

No ceiling fans; A/C units are fixed-speed.

Cleanliness above average, though not exceptional.

🍽️ Food & Dining – 7/10
Staff was very accommodating, specially prepared Indian vegetarian meals.

Menu is largely Western-style, with limited vegan and vegetarian options.

Menu variety can be improved to cater to Indian or plant-based travelers.

💁 Service – 7/10
Good hospitality overall.

Drinking water is chargeable, which can be inconvenient.

Suggest installing an R.O. system for guest comfort.

🧹 Cleanliness & Hygiene – 7/10
Rooms were clean and tidy.

Bathrooms were functional but just okay—not luxurious.

🏨 Facilities & Amenities – 5/10
Very basic facilities overall.

Lack of international power sockets may inconvenience foreign travelers.

No standout common areas or leisure amenities.

💵 Value for Money – 5/10
Relatively pricey for the limited amenities and beach access.

You’re paying for location more than the facilities.

🙋 Staff – 8/10
Friendly and helpful staff who make an effort to enhance your stay.

Responsive to special requests and food preferences.

🌟 Overall Experience – 7/10
A comfortable and convenient stay near the beach.

Great location for nightlife and accessibility, but amenities are minimal.

Best suited for travelers who prioritize beach proximity over luxury.

Hotel requires some basic repairing works. During rains there will be water ponding throughout the common walkway.

Unfortunately, my experience at Somerset Mirissa Beach was quite disappointing. The customer service was poor—staff were unresponsive and not very helpful throughout the stay. While the room quality was just okay, the location and overall atmosphere left much to be desired. The place lacked the relaxing beach vibe you’d expect, and it didn’t feel welcoming. Would not recommend this place if you’re looking for a pleasant and comfortable stay in Mirissa.

Greetings from Hong Kong! I love the hotel very much! Although the beach direct access is blocked but its still so close to the beach. The manager, receptionist and all the staffs i met are so kind to offer help. I was bit afraid from looking at the review saying the hotel isn’t clean, but I think ppl have been mixed with different branches of Somerset that close by. I don’t encounter any cleaning issue and I really like the interior of the hotel. And they even got Youtube access on TV!!!! Will definitely come back and staying at this hotel again!

Supportive reception staff on making the booking and supportive other staff during the stay. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds. Rooms are clean.
Love the breakfast and welcome fresh fruit juice.
Good location near the beachside. Had sea view and loved the sounds of waves during night.

The hotel is a basic beachside hotel albeit with no direct access to the beach. However, it is within walking distance of Parrot Island and the sandy beach with waterside restaurants. Room was clean and basically furnished albeit affording a reasonable view of the ocean. Shower and fridge were fully operational. State of towels (as referenced by a fellow traveller on Booking. Com in late February) had holes and were frankly a disgrace (see photo). On referring to Duty Manager he offered no apology and took no responsibility and blamed the staff. However, given a similar recent complaint this is, in my opinion, unacceptable. To add insult to injury the room charge invoiced exceeded the pre agreed rate (including taxes). Room is essentially overpriced and I believe there must be better options available with a management that has pride in their operation and takes responsibility for any shortcomings. Stay at your own peril !

My wife and I stayed here for one night during our trip around Sri Lanka. The hotel is in a great location in Mirissa and the staff were lovely! At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. The hotel is reasonably priced, however for that, you get a hotel in a good location with nice staff, a clean room and WiFi. It’s nothing overly special but a safe and clean place to spend the night.
