Unacceptable Discrimination at the Front Desk

While the hotel itself is clean and visually appealing, our stay was completely overshadowed by one of the most disturbing encounters I’ve ever experienced while traveling.

We arrived early and attempted to check in. The receptionist, Sina, began by asking where we were “really from” despite holding Canadian passports — a question that immediately felt inappropriate and loaded. What followed was a barrage of unsolicited political commentary and deeply offensive remarks about our ethnicity. Throughout our stay, he continued to make discriminatory, demeaning comments that made us feel unsafe, unwelcomed, and targeted.

Simple requests were met with unnecessary difficulty, laced with passive-aggressive comments rooted in prejudice. It genuinely felt as though this individual went out of his way to ruin our experience. I’ve never encountered such hostility while traveling — and unfortunately, it seems we are not the only ones. Upon reviewing other comments, I’ve found several similar complaints, particularly from guests with Arabic-sounding names.

The fact that Sina is still employed, despite this disturbing pattern, suggests either willful ignorance or implicit support from management. It raises serious questions about the values and priorities of the hotel’s leadership.

To anyone considering this hotel: if you are not white or Western-looking, please think twice. No one should have to endure such dehumanizing treatment on what’s supposed to be a peaceful getaway. We were relieved to check out, and we will not be returning.

The hotel is nice: clean, comfortable room, good breakfast, free parking, and a great location near the seafront — perfect if you have a car to explore Ölüdeniz and the area. Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with a boat tour booked through reception. We asked for a quiet, small-group trip in nature, and were sold a package for over 5,000 TL (more than 100 €) that was supposed to be relaxing and exclusive. Instead, we ended up on a crowded pirate-style boat with over 180 people, loud music, bad food — and other guests had paid less than half. When we complained, the hotel initially denied any responsibility and only partially refunded us after we insisted. Really disappointing, especially because we were clear about what we wanted. A shame, because the hotel itself was otherwise very pleasant.
