I know the original Shangri La Singapore has a superlative reputation but this hotel shoots for that and misses, feeling like an upper mid range hotel trying to be top range but not quite reaching it. There is a certain warmth or polish lacking to my eye. Disembarking from the taxi straight into the unwelcoming unfriendly security staff and scanner set up doesn’t help. I know is necessary but there are no welcoming smiles for guests.
The decor is Orientalist exuberance in swirls of blue and cream, marble, porcelain and Chinese landscape repro wall paintings.
After the first night we noticed the bedding smelt strongly of detergent and my partner had an itchy rash, and they changed it after we requested with a note of apology. The room is generally good but there are occasional small annoying details like the “bedside” light switches are too far from the bed to reach and have to get out to use them.
The breakfast has ample choice though mainly average quality. The waitress was disorganised, the porridge much too runny and unappetising, and the Chinese dumpling just dense and terrible.
The hotel location is perfect for the Beşiktaş-Kadikoy ferry and for an early morning stroll along the ferry quays to watch the sun rise, although everywhere else needs a taxi.
At heart, I prefer smaller cosier hotels and the Istanbul Shangri La is a bit too showy and trying to be something it’s not for my taste.

The location is excellent, right next to the Presidential Palace and overlooking the strait, perfect for a stroll. It's very safe and quiet. The transparent glass entrance provides a pleasant experience for men who smoke. Inside, lights and heating automatically turn on – superb! The Tang Palace Chinese restaurant is arguably the best in Turkey.

After a horrible stay at the Ritz, we moved here. The difference was night and day. This is what a luxury hotel stay should be. From impeccable customer-centric service and a stunning lobby to the food, in-room dining and amenities, everything was near perfect. Even housekeeping went above and beyond—so friendly! There were a few minor issues with our room, but the manager Umut worked quickly and graciously to fix everything. I understand that things can go wrong, but more “luxury” hotels should take a note from this playbook: underpromise and over deliver. We will certainly be back.

The team at the Shangri-La delivers some of the best hospitality experience. Special thanks to Alper, Ismail and Sedar at the concierge who helped me a lot and resolved all problems swiftly during my stay. They together with all their colleagues elevated our stay in Istanbul with their welcoming attitude.
The hotel itself is conveniently located among many attraction sites and some nice neighborhoods to wander around. There are many restaurants near the hotel whether you like street food or more refined dining experiences. It is also adjacent to the ferry terminal which makes it ideal if one wants to explore the Asian side a bit more or appreciate more of the view on the water.
The rooms are not the most spacious but are cozy and elegant, some features a nice terrace with amazing views.
Also, you can see plenty of cats in front of the lobby entrance in the evening :)

I really loved the Shangri-La atmosphere; it blended Chinese artistic flair with French creamy elegance. Combined with the view from the window, it felt tranquil and pleasant, yet full of charm. What disappointed me was the poor character of the staff at the front desk who handled check-in. They used cunning Turkish scams on customers they were supposed to serve. This wasn't just a lack of professionalism.

I enjoyed my stay, the staff are so, so nice & makes you really feel that you are the only gust they have, from the time you arrive till you leave. The breakfast, simply delicious 😋, and for sure the chives & the staff makes you feel that they are there only for you . we upgraded our room and took one that have Bosphorus view it was a magic. The hotel is near to all places you might like to visit. I will always remember my stay at this hotel, not only that I celebrated my birthday but I felt I was welcomed all the time. I recommend strongly this hotel, and I would like personally to stay there again cause the experience is great .. this is one of my WOW places

We had an absolutely amazing experience at this hotel. The level of service was truly above and beyond — every detail was taken care of with genuine care and professionalism. The team went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect, and their personal attention to our kids at multiple moments made the stay even more special. You can really feel that they care about their guests.
