The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC—now the Mayflower by Marriott—stands as a timeless symbol of elegance, history, and political intrigue. Opened in 1925, the hotel was envisioned as the city’s grand social center, welcoming presidents, dignitaries, artists, and visionaries through its ornate doors. Its Beaux-Arts architecture, inspired by European palaces, reflects an era when craftsmanship and grandeur defined American ambition.
Often called the “Grande Dame of Washington,” the Mayflower has been woven into the nation’s political fabric. It has hosted countless inaugural balls, historic meetings, and confidential conversations that helped shape U.S. history. Presidents from Calvin Coolidge to modern leaders have stayed within its walls, and it was here that Franklin D. Roosevelt reportedly prepared his first inaugural address.
Beyond politics, the Mayflower has been a cultural crossroads—hosting Hollywood stars, royalty, and world travelers seeking refinement and comfort. Its richly decorated ballrooms, crystal chandeliers, and classic hospitality evoke a sense of living history.
Today, while embracing modern luxury, the Mayflower preserves its legacy with grace. To step inside is to walk through a century of stories, where past and present meet in quiet sophistication.

Very spacious rooms.

Extremely courteous staff. There was one person called Bobby who really made sure we felt at home.

Great location. Walking distance from all key monuments. Rooms are spacious and clean. Service is good.
Obviously it's expensive

Walked in to our room with stains on the bedspread, dried boogers on the wall, dirty, sticky countertops, and old lipstick on a glass. This hotel is not up to Marriott standards. We are Platinum members who have stayed here many times, and have never seen a room this bad. While the head of housekeeping was sent immediately, we brought up our overall concerns with a front desk manager who could not have cared less. Mayflower staff - you may be stressed and short staffed, but please do better.

The food was not too good. Too much sauce and not enough healthy items on menu.

This is one of those hotels that expects guests to not drink water.

While the property was clean and check-in was seamless. The rooms didn't have drinking water. There's a saying - you offer water even to your enemies. Seems the hotel management struggles with basic of hospitality.

Overall experience - average.
Cleanliness - good.
Staff - attentive but slow.
Parking - valet for 70 bucks. No self park options. So, if you love your car, this isn't a hotel to book.
Room - clean but lacked toiletries and drinking water. Sad - who came up with this cost cutting?
Restaurant - given the place struggles to offer water, we thought it's better to try options nearby.

Great historical hotel with a lot of charm and character.

Great location, everything within walking distance or a quick uber/rent a bike or whatever other way you decide to get around.

We stayed here for a weekend getaway from NY last week. Beautiful hotel with a grand lobby. The suite was excellent with two bathrooms, clean and comfy. But more importantly, I want to shoutout Carla for going above and beyond to help accommodate our needs! She contacted me via phone the morning of our reservation to offer a bigger room and made our experience that much better! Also, shoutout to Sam for his excellent: Friendly customer service.

Loud, Noisy and service is lacking.
We liked the look of the hotel but had a problem and reported it but nothing was done. 1st night - AC unit was extremely loud all night - so we didn't get any sleep that night. Reported it the next day but no response from anyone. It continued to make low noises for the next 4 days. So we got very little sleep. Housekeeper did not leave us water or empty or trash or clean coffee maker. Left a note for housekeeper to leave water - she/he moved the note but didn't leave us any. Called down to concierge to have water delivered and our trash removed. Housekeeper came with water but knew nothing about the trash collection. Just really poor service. No one seemed to care. We got very little sleep in your very noisy room. I cannot recommend your hotel to anyone.

I went out Saturday night and let me tell you. I was impressed with this Club. This was my first time the staff was nice security was nice and might I add they were cute too lol. The setup was on point. NO FIGHTS, GOOD DRINKS, GREAT BAND. I would definitely go back and recommend this club to everyone.

Hispanic, bald bartender, bartending August 18th night into the 19th near the restrooms was giving off racist vibes. I asked him for a cup of water with ice, he wanted to sell me a bottled water for $5. I told him I just wanted ice with regular water and he only gave me a cup of ice. I confronted a manager about the problem, which she (Tatiana) seemed to handle, but apparently wasn't handled b/c after she spoke to him the bartender harassed me while wearing a shirt that read "I hate you" with a monkey on it. I am considered African American so I do not find that a coincidence. I do not recommend supporting a night club with racist bartenders that cannot serve you a simple cup of water for free when any restaurant you will give you WATER FOR FREE, this was a very disrespectful situation and should not be tolerated at all.

In the office/basement of a hotel next to the business center for sending faxes to Carol in accounting. Awesome place?

They need to show their hours of the kitchen. Went there and could not eat because the kitchen doesn’t open until 7:00 pm

Pool table is in very bad shape. Strong lean, very dirty, expensive. When I went to pay, the worker rang up drinks that were more expensive than what I drank.

Great for karaoke nights especially if you're looking to get weird. I haven't been here for any other occasion...
03.08.2017 Chawiwan
I didn't know what was waiting for us as this bar is underground and it was very very dark. Once we entered, surprise! It's a karaoke bar! Luckily, most of the singer sang really well and we really enjoyed the night. Affordable drink is another plus!
