Reviews
**Facilities:** Very old and outdated, not at all up to the basic Marriott standard I've experienced elsewhere. The internet was incredibly slow, and the TV was practically useless (I'll elaborate on my TV experience below).
**Environment:** The location is decent, with a subway station and commercial area nearby. However, the room environment itself was very average. The entire room was extremely dry and really small (the video used a wide-angle lens). It definitely wasn't worth the price. Given the good location and the high prices in the capital, I initially accepted it and truly didn't intend to leave a negative review.
**Hygiene:** They seem to have disinfected thoroughly. My skin is quite sensitive, and the part of the bed sheets that touched my skin felt dry and itchy (perhaps too much disinfectant was used). The bathtub's water was clean and hygienic, perfect for relieving travel fatigue.
**Service:** The housekeeping staff was incredibly diligent. They always tidied up our takeout boxes and neatly folded our clothes. Many thanks to them! Also, a big thank you to the concierge, who worked hard to help with luggage and enthusiastically gave me directions. The manager and technician who came to fix the TV were sincere and responsible. However, I also encountered some very unpleasant incidents during my stay.
---START OF MAIN REVIEW---
I traveled to Beijing with friends during the May Day holiday. Based on my excellent past experiences at Marriott hotels in other cities, I didn't bother to check reviews this time (though afterward, I found numerous negative reviews on platforms like Xiaohongshu). I unhesitatingly chose Beijing Marriott.
On check-in day, the concierge was very enthusiastic, opening doors and helping with luggage, even offering to bring it up to the room. This was one of the best parts of my check-in experience. The front desk staff, perhaps a bit tired from work or maybe my expectations were too high, gave me an average impression. But then again, you don't really need much expression to check in, so my personal feelings above are just for reference.
Before entering the room, I was still looking forward to the trip. The door wasn't as heavy as the one at the Marriott in Haikou, easy for a girl to push open. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by how small the room was. Yes, it was really tiny. Even for two girls with just one suitcase each, it felt like there was no space to put anything. Beijing is an expensive city with limited space, so I understood. I then looked out the window, after all, the promotional images made it look so premium! Oh my, the view outside looked like a residential compound, no scenery at all, and none of the rumored high-rise commercial areas were visible. It was truly hard to imagine that such a room was worth "over a thousand yuan per night, plus a 2,000 yuan deposit for four days." Anyway, I was already here, and the deposit would eventually be refunded, so I decided to just enjoy my time. In the afternoon, I had afternoon tea at the Four Seasons Hotel Beijing. Although it was a complimentary tea from a brand, and I didn't spend a penny, their service attitude was far more enthusiastic, making me even consider changing hotels.
On the second day, we went to Universal Studios Beijing. The weather was terrible that day, so my friend and I decided to head back to the hotel early. Watching TV and eating takeout together seemed like a good alternative. Not wanting to bother the staff during a busy holiday, we tried for a while to get the TV to work, but it kept showing "no signal." So, we called the front desk to inquire about the TV and internet. "Excuse me, can we cast to this TV? It keeps showing no signal. How should we fix it?" My friend made the call, and her tone was very polite. Our first answer was, "Yes, you can cast, but you'll need a cable." My friend then asked where the cable was located, and the person on the other end firmly replied, "All our casting cables were borrowed during the May Day holiday. It's impossible to get one throughout the entire holiday." What were we supposed to do without a cable? My friend reluctantly hung up.
As soon as she hung up, I thought to myself: since the official description of the room amenities clearly stated a TV, then if the TV cannot play any content at all, that's deceiving the consumer. My friend was hesitant, but I gathered my courage and called back, expressing my demands: "Your hotel clearly states on the platform that a TV is included. Therefore, a casting cable should be standard in every room, especially during a busy May Day holiday when preparations should be more thorough, or alternative compensation plans should be in place. We shouldn't have to wait for others to return them to 'borrow' one. This is not a responsibility consumers should bear for the hotel. If you cannot resolve this, please escalate it to your superiors; otherwise, I will call the consumer hotline and leave a negative review." (Perhaps the staff might dislike this "threat," but if I didn't advocate for myself, my basic right to hotel living services would have been compromised).
That evening, the manager and a TV technician knocked on our door. First, they fixed the TV so it could play normally, and then they produced a "backup casting cable." It was an issue that could have been resolved much earlier, but only after a "complaint" was made. This behavior is simply not grand. Frankly, I wasn't appeased by getting this hard-won cable, solely because of the earlier statement, "It's impossible to get one throughout the entire holiday." If it was impossible, then why could it be produced in the end?
Okay, that covers the worst part of the entire stay.
There's another annoying incident, though not as bad.
Other hotels offer food delivery services, including but not limited to robot delivery, delivery personnel bringing food to the room, or hotel staff delivering food. The first time I asked if food could be delivered, the answer was no. Later, after mentioning services at other hotels, they changed their tune and said, "Yes, but you need to sign a waiver (guaranteeing that it's not due to hotel reasons, etc.)." The facilities are too old. A Marriott of this size, in an era of technological innovation, doesn't even have two robot delivery services. If they want to compare themselves to other hotels, they should compare the good aspects. Otherwise, they might as well admit they look down on their guests and believe they don't deserve a quality service experience.
Before checking out, while waiting for a taxi, I sat in the hotel lobby for a while. I overheard a young woman at the adjacent seat asking a hotel staff member, "We just checked in. Can we sit here and eat something for a bit? We won't make a mess." It seems normal for a guest to sit and eat for a while, doesn't it? Then I heard the hotel staff member say that eating in the lobby would require signing a "waiver." I wonder if the hotel has a KPI for signing these waivers? It leaves a very bad impression.
Finally, I want to praise the bellboys who helped with cars outside and the young woman who handled my check-out. One bellboy patiently gave me directions multiple times and kept telling me to let him handle luggage and opening doors. He was very enthusiastic! The young woman at check-out was very meticulous. She informed me of the estimated refund time for the deposit, reminded me to check for it, and helped with luggage storage (she insisted on dragging our luggage to the concierge, which I thought was quite heavy, but she still insisted on taking it there). She was very conscientious and responsible. If I could rate her individually, I would definitely give her a good review! The cleaning staff was also very careful, tidying everything up neatly. Thank you!
I hope my review helps everyone choose a suitable hotel for themselves. Happy travels and enjoy your stay!🥳
