The Kunlun Jing An in Shanghai

Overall, it was a fantastic stay. The location in Jing'an Temple is very convenient. This 40-year-old hotel still feels solid, steady, and radiant. The hardware truly reflects the pursuit of quality in hotel design from the last century – details like the shower grab bar, the double shower curtain, and the sturdy showerhead. I stayed on the 30th floor, and both the water temperature and pressure were excellent. This kind of attention to detail is rare to see nowadays, especially after the real estate boom and the proliferation of five-star hotels in the last decade. The room furniture and decor transport you back to an era of unique craftsmanship and meticulous artistry. The lobby is airy, spacious, and grand, and the Western restaurant boasts a bright atrium with a charming stream – spatial designs like these are hard to find today. Customer service was very responsive, indicating that the staff is well-manned and professional. My only minor feedback is that the female staff at the front desk all appeared to be without makeup; it would be nice if that could be improved.

Extremely satisfied with my business stay, especially the staff at the Executive Lounge – their service attitude was superb! The Executive Lounge offers great views and is a very comfortable spot for a relaxing break. The lounge staff were excellent, very attentive and thoughtful! 😊 And the afternoon tea 🍵 was just amazing!

Good rooms with nice Jingan Temple views. Location is very good, right in the French Concessions. Walking distance to many restaurants bars. Overall good stay!

This is a well-established five-star hotel located near Jing'an Temple, just a five-minute walk away. It's also very close to the subway station, a mere two to three minutes' stroll to Jing'an Temple station, which serves three different lines, making it convenient to reach all major attractions. The soundproofing in the rooms is excellent; you can't hear any traffic noise from the street below. The breakfast offers a rich variety, and the environment is top-notch. The only downside is that the room facilities are a bit dated.

Service: A very satisfying stay! I'd especially like to commend the 38th-floor executive lounge service team. From check-in to check-out, every staff member was warm, sincere, and genuinely friendly. While dining in the executive lounge, they paid attention to guests' dining preferences, showing great care in the details. They were quick to respond to any issues, patient, and thoughtful – truly excellent. I'll definitely choose the Kunlun Jing An Hotel again next time I'm in Shanghai, and I highly recommend it to my friends.

Had a wonderful stay at The Kunlun Jing An. The location is excellent, the check-in process is always fast and efficient, and the staff consistently try to accommodate any requests.

The facilities are brilliant — the indoor pool is open year-round, and the large windows let in so much natural light that it hardly feels indoors at all. There’s also a lovely patio area with sun beds, tables, and chairs, perfect for enjoying lunch or snacks in the sun. The gym is very well equipped and has everything needed for a proper workout.

Lastly, a special thank you to Leon. He was incredibly helpful during check-in, assisted us again when there was a mix-up with a food delivery, and even arranged a room upgrade, which my son was so excited about! His service really made our stay extra special.

The location is fantastic, I booked it specifically for its prime spot right by Jing'an Temple, and my child really liked it too. It's super convenient for getting to nearby places like Kerry Centre and Jing'an Temple. I'll definitely book it again next time.

The location is fantastic, perfect for my visit to Huashan Hospital as it's just a few minutes' walk away. Given the hotel's age, the facilities are a bit dated. Overall, the service was satisfactory, and they were able to accommodate my request for an accessible room. However, two issues really stood out: 1) There was a huge bug in the bathroom, clearly indicating it wasn't properly checked before I checked in; and 2) The front desk was repeatedly unreachable by phone (I noticed other guests have mentioned this too), which is quite unacceptable for an established five-star hotel.

As frequent travelers who have stayed in many five-star-plus hotels around the world, my 80-year-old mother and I would like to share an honest note about our recent stay at your hotel. To be frank, the overall service didn’t quite meet the five-star standard we’ve come to expect — for instance, on a rainy day, the front desk staff could have been more proactive and welcoming, especially to elderly guests. The lobby manager and housekeeping team could also respond faster to requests from executive lounge guests, without delays or indifference. That said, Mr. Liu, a server at the first-floor Atrium Cafe, truly impressed us — so much so that we would happily recommend your hotel to family and friends.

Mr. Liu is dedicated, professional, and highly efficient. Even at his busiest moments, he remains calm, well-organized, and always smiling — polite, warm, and attentive to every request and question. What stands out even more is his thoughtful, patient care for elderly guests. He knows the Atrium Cafe and the hotel inside out, and is equally familiar with the neighborhood and Shanghai’s tourist scene. He gave us plenty of practical tips, which made our trip so much more enjoyable.

When choosing a hotel, location and facilities certainly matter — but what truly makes guests want to come back are staff like Mr. Liu. We do hope the management recognizes more and encourages him further. Excellent staff deserve appreciation, and true talent should be retained.

The hotel was very busy and in a great location, really close to the subway. The desserts on the first floor were delicious! However, I do think the safety of the in-room facilities could be improved; I'd recommend a detailed review of them.
