Where to stay in Punta Cana

We stayed at Zel Punta Cana from January 14 to January 20, 2026. The hotel is located in the Bavaro area, about 20 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. The resort is brand new, modern, and well maintained. Check in was fast and smooth, and the staff is generally friendly, although service can be slow at times and English is not widely spoken. Our room was very nice, we had the suite with the living room and very large balcony. It was very private and spacious. The towels in the room were old looking, they were clean but they definitely need to update them. We weren’t given any hand towels or washcloths. We called and they brought 2 hand towels and no washcloths. Service was extremely inconsistent, we didn’t get a butler, other people did...

Resort beautiful, swim up room so beautiful. Friendly staff. Pretty easy check in. Had a room mix up but got it figured out. We enjoyed the spa and loved the beach. Had a wonderful stay. Only negative would be food. It was just ok. Overall excellent experience.

Had a great 11 night stay at Zel. The staff are friendly and helpful, despite a small language barrier of English. Rooms are spacious but could improve some minor details- had to ring for fresh towels on a few occasions, the sinks were never washed down during stay but bedding spotless and made every day. The bathroom door in our room was slightly broken at the hinge and the hairdryer didn’t work....

Cibao was amazing and Friendly, I think his name is Angel and amazing everyone. Loves that everyone was soo nice, make you feel comfortable and welcome. Only downside was no, internet in our room 2003, but other than the bed was always clean and comfortable. Will be back :)

I would not recommend staying here. All older people and they kept staring at us. I’m 35 and my wife is 32 definitely not my cup of tea. No top shelf alcohol even for a up charge. Toilet was not functioning properly. No face towels we had to wash up with bath mats unfortunately. Televison was outdated and blurry batteries stopped working. Terrible view my balcony was facing a mansion or someone’s home...

Beach was fabulous, flat walk out with minimal seaweed. Not much to do onsite, minimal entertainment and few food options. If you are looking for something quaint and quiet, this is an ideal option.

I highly recommend the unique experience, which includes a butler service during you stay. Our butler, Oliver, went above and beyond. He helped me navigate food allergy issues, made our dining and spa reservations, and even went to the local store to get me a brush, that I failed to pack.

We stayed at Lopesan in the Unique category for my 40 birthday. When we arrived , we were greeted with champagne and there was a private check in. They let us check in a little early which was great. They left a chocolate gift in our room which was delicious! We spent the majority of our time at the Unique bar on the beach and every bartender was super nice! The service was very fast and friendly!...

The resort was beautiful and very clean. I don't feel I capitalized on all they had to offer. There was so much to do on the resort and it was very secure. It required everyone to check in at the gate via security. My only complaint is that I did not enjoy the food.

The food was really not good. The hotel finishes are very nice but the whole place had the best odd smell combined with mustiness in the room. It was a weird cleaner or fragrance. Also the drinks were not great either.

I loved my stay here, only thing I would say is how room service does not come unless you ask for it, and the fact that there are no swim up bars! I did not realize how important this part would be! Besides that, me and my partner really enjoyed our stay!

Good value. Just one night and flew next day. Nice big room and comfy bed, water was at best luke warm, breakfast was average. There was however a cafe/ bar across the road (Cuban) that was great.

We booked 3 rooms. One for our 2 sons (16 & 19), one for our daughters (14, 16 & 18), and one for us. Me and my husbands room smelled so bad of sewage, i could not sleep. We complained and they changed us to a much better room. The air conditioner was broken but they did try to fix it right away. When they couldn't, they offered another room. We didn't want to change again so we asked for a fan....

We specifically booked this hotel for one night because of the rooftop pool shown as the main photo online. It was the primary reason for choosing this property. The buffets were good, had themes and good variety. Some of the restaurants that didn't need reservations had long waits.

Cons: We took our own wash clothes (different fabric) and the cleaning staff took them and never returned them to us. The rooms are dated with minor issues. There was a light fixture that was hanging off the wall when we arrived to our room. Flies was on food that wasn’t being monitored. Food quality questionable and food choices repetitive. The hotel has a great location, close to the beach , shops , restaurants . The rooms are fairly clean, but several things need repair, such as the ceiling, showers, and hairdryers. The staff speak little or no English, which can make communication difficult. Breakfast is okay, but nothing special. Overall, it’s a decent option mainly because of its location.

The only problem for us was that we thought we were booking their sister hotel of the similar name at the seaside but we got round that by being based at the beach in the day and even had breakfast there as the two hotels were very flexible. Room was large, hotel is overall tidy. Generally the furniture is on the older side but at this price range it does exactly what I expected it to. Great location near the beach too, however if you plan to chill in your room during the day, there's a busy road right under the windows and it gets very loud. It gets quieter after sunset.

Staff was helpful. I was given a room that had not been cleaned and the staff immediately fixed the situation. However the next room and a mold smell and the AC was not working. I asked to be moved the following morning to another room with AC and was told maintenance would come and repair and there was no need to move. This hotel is a great value for the price. The room was clean, air conditioning worked great, and a nice breakfast and coffee is included. The staff were all friendly and I felt safe staying there. Bavaro Beach is a short walk away. It was perfect for a quick overnight stay.
