Flightgate Munich Airport Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals in Hallbergmoos

I am staying here because my flight was delayed and I missed my connection. This was not a planned hotel stay, and that context matters a lot. Judging this hotel as an emergency accommodation for stranded passengers, the experience was extremely poor.

The room has virtually no amenities. No complimentary water, no basic toiletries beyond the bare minimum. Because this was an unplanned overnight stay, I did not unpack my luggage and had almost nothing with me. Buying essentials at the hotel is very expensive, which makes the situation even more frustrating. There is a supermarket near by though, but you shouldn’t be needed this.

The hotel was full of people in the same situation, clearly stranded due to flight delays. This seems to be one of the hotels used by Lufthansa for disrupted flights in Munich. The atmosphere felt more like a youth hostel than a hotel you would ever choose voluntarily.

Dinner was included via a voucher supposedly worth 20 euros. I had already eaten in the lounge and am very glad I did. The dinner offering was frankly depressing. Cheap noodles, a chili consisting almost entirely of beans, a vegetarian option that was already empty, and a salad bar with only green salad and a few tomatoes. Soft drinks were included, but that does not change the fact that this was the cheapest possible food presentation. Calling this a 20 euro dinner is unrealistic.

Additionally, my first room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, despite this being advertised as a non smoking hotel. The smell was unmistakable and made the room unusable for me. Having to deal with this after already being stranded due to flight disruptions added another layer of frustration to an already poor experience.

Overall, this was an awful experience if you are stranded and forced to stay here without preparation. I can imagine that reviews might look different if you book this hotel intentionally for an early flight and arrive prepared. But as an emergency hotel for disrupted passengers, it fails badly.

Honestly, it does not feel like anyone stays here out of free will. Everyone I encountered seemed to be stranded, and the hotel experience reflects that.
