We had a good time at Hotel Altmunchen! The hotel was located in a great area of the city, right near Sendlinger-Tor-Platz which was less than a minute walk away and perfect for morning coffees and baked goods. Easy walk to Marienplatz (10mins), Munich Hbf (16mins) and Karlsplatz (10mins).
The room was small but comfortable, the TV had a large selection of Deutsche channels, and three English channels. The room stayed incredibly warm throughout the night (we were travelling in mid-December). There was no kettle or coffee/tea available in the room so please be aware you will have to pay for breakfast or just head outside to get your morning coffee.
The bathroom was dated but did the job. Slight leaking from the shower onto the bathroom floor but nothing too serious.
Overall, a good stay with Hotel Altmunchen. We would recommend this place again for simply the fantastic location!!

I stayed here in october 2025 on a work trip, I would not recommend because of some key issues. Firstly, the location was very good next to Sendlinger Tor and my room was quiet at night. It was a bit old, but that is the style of the hotel.

I think I would have problems with a trolley or wheelchair up the small elevator, but not my main concerns.

The breakfast was extra for 16 Euros and was subpar, the coffee was weak, I had to buy a new one in a cafè afterwards, the selection was very limited with the only eggs beeing hardboiled and blue inside.

My main concern was the hotel beeing cheap, paying 146 euros per night, which I found a lot for this standard I was not given free coffee in the room, but had to pay 1 euro per pod of coffee (it costs like 30 cents per pod, can you not just give me five?). The worst thing was the fee for a lost key which was outrageous. 499 euros (why not 500? Are you trying to sell it to me). I see some other comments where the owners are laughing at guests commenting this saying you could just leave the key in the lobby. Well, in the brochure it could not guarantee a 24/7 open lobby ("usually" open it said, whatver that ment). I didnt want to get back to the hotel late at night, find no one in the lobby and no chance to get to my room. So I kept the key in my pocket and had to check my pocket every 10 minutes to make sure I hadnt lost it and owed the hotel 500 euros. The legality of this fee would be interesting to challenge.

Find something else.

It was a warm experience staying at Hotel Altmunchen. The hotel has a great location, very close to the old town but still quiet and restful.

The staffs are professional and friendly. Everything in the hotel is simple but done to excellence. It's clean, cozy and human.

Take breakfast, for example, it was not a lot of options but everything was freshly and beautifully made. They purposely made just a little bit of scramble eggs to put in the warmer and fill up as it empties so it does become old. Small things like this really show their care.

We recommend staying here if you are visiting Munich.

Lovely staff, comfortable room and a great breakfast. The decor and furniture in the room was a little tired but it was clean and well maintained. The location was perfect for walking into central Munich and I would definitely stay here again.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful! Our room was clean and ready several hours before check in which was very nice after our flight. The hotel was in the perfect location as Sendlinger Tor has access to almost all transport routes & if not, is only a few stops away from central station. The area has tons of restaurants and cafes plus tons of shopping. I would 100% stay here again if we came back! There is no AC, but the fan in the room plus an open window was more than enough.

If was fine, nothing outstanding, still quite expensive, but for somewhere to stay for oktoberfest at quite short notice, it was fine, about a 15-20 minutes walk to the festival. Wouldn't pay so much for a hotel art any other time if year though.

Stayed at hotel on business. Location is good, but if your a light sleeper like myself you will find it noisy with the traffic outside and at times other guests slamming their doors. Have used before with colleagues and was ok. Sadly this time person on charge at reception was very rude and left me very frustrated one evening before bed. Sadly not very professional. Because of this we will not be returning next time.

Nice and quiet neighbourhood. Friendly and helpful staffs. Breakfast is a bit expensive at almost 10 euro per person, so we didn't eat here. Very close to a subway station so it's convenient to get around.

Super clean, nicely appointed, great breakfast, great location, and the desk staff was fantastic, particularly Norbert, who made our stay ideal. Close to city center. Easy access to trains. A great home base for our time in Munich!

It is a small cozy hotel compared to many others but if you see the neighborhood, it's not bad at all. Located in a clean and lively locality 5 minutes walking distance from the nearest railway/underground (if I may say). It is best for the business/work related stays especially if you have to reach the Messe Munich (the exhibition centre) in 15 minutes and not burn your pockets a lot. It is by no means the cheapest but its good for what you pay for. Old building, a bit claustrophobic in general. The elevator however is taking it to extreme; one person at a time but all is forgiven after reading the notice; full marks for that.

All in all, its not bad if you are in and out in couple of days and your main goal is to roam around the city rather than sitting in the hotel.

Think about what you would like to know if you were looking for a review about a place to relax. Please describe in detail what you liked and what you didn't. What would you advise to other guests and to the hotel owner. The more fully you tell about the hotel, the easier it will be for other people to make a choice and they will be very grateful to you!
