Reviews
About the only negative was finding parking near the unit we were staying in. We ended up parking in a deck and hauling our luggage about 3 blocks to the hotel.
Our room was perfect for the four of us, providing a very spacious setting between two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen area and living area. The beds were comfortable and the blankets were just right in terms of warmth without being too heavy. We had a view of Hverfisgata street below and could see the water in the distance, in addition to any cruise ships that were docked. I enjoyed stepping out onto the small balcony at night to see the warm glow of the evening sun. Since we visited in July, the blackout shades came in handy to block out the midnight sun.
The kitchen came stocked with dishes and silverware which we put to good use, especially in the morning for breakfast, since we’d pick up items like fruit, yogurt and bread from the store. Coffee was complimentary via the Nespresso machine on the counter and they also had cornflakes, orange juice and milk already stocked.
The location of our building was very central as well. Located on Hverfisgata street, it was just a short walk up to the bustling Laugavegur street where many of the restaurants and shops are located. When we arrived, we did have to walk a couple blocks from the reception building to our building with our luggage, but it wasn’t too bad since it appeared to be really safe during the day in the city.
Service was superb! At check-in, the concierge kindly welcomed us, and the checkout process was very simple as well. There were a couple times when we needed to take a taxi from our building, and the concierge arranged that for us as well.
Below are a few minor things, but barely inconveniences, considering the great experience we had overall:
* The bathrooms didn’t have a ton of counter space, but pretty much just a ledge surface above the toilet that could be used to hold toiletries.
* The bedrooms didn’t have much closet space nor drawers, so we ended up using the cupboard structure near the front door to store some of our clothes and hang our coats.
* The building we were in ran right along a main road, so traffic was audible, even late at night, when buses and trucks drove by.
Our standard room had a small kitchenette with fridge, mini dishwasher and plenty of basics in the kitchen to eat comfortably.
Beds & pillows were so comfy and allowed us the rest we needed! Towel heater in the bathroom was a treat as were the provided shampoos, soaps and lotions!
Easy checkout, too!
Parking was a bit tricky but found a P3 spot by the Viking ship sculpture and was free for the weekend!
All of the little touches in the room—milk, juice, cereal, coffee, heated floors, the towel warmer, individual comforters for each person on the double beds!—provided small but significant luxuries. The only thing that did not work at all was the phone app for the room key. A physical key is definitely the way to go. And coat hooks near the front door would be super helpful.
We made the right move on our first trip to Iceland to stay in a hotel so that we could get help navigating and have a place to store our luggage as needed. Raul was so helpful and kind when we needed to call a taxi.
Sandra‘s professionalism, kindness, and excellent suggestions about how to live like a local made our trip truly unforgettable. She is an absolute gem!
We look forward to returning to Reykjavík and can’t wait to stay here again!
