We’re cyclists from Australia and have been travelling around the world on our bikes for 5 years. We received a wonderful welcome by the staff and everyone couldn’t do enough for us. The room was comfortable, the hotel itself had a great feel about it making us feel at home. The gym and spa were fantastic. The food was superb and so were all the wait staff. Everyone was super attentive to all our needs...

Older facility. Tried charging us for 2nd person. I had 2 room bookings. Finally they found 2nd booking. Overpriced for value provided. Attached restaurant service was good.

Clean and well maintained hotel

My friend and I decided to stay here because of the location and reviews. It was a good location…honestly we Ubered everywhere but it seemed like a good base. The room was tinier than expected, but met our needs. It was clean, everything worked, no one bothered us when we had our “don’t bother us” sign on. The shower was ok…could have been hotter, but good pressure. I do wish we had been able to check...

We booked for 4 nights and will definitely be staying again next time we visit Kolkata. The rooms are cosy, spotlessly clean, and well appointed with any facilities you require. The staff are friendly, dedicated, and helpful. The food and drinks are also delicious. The hotel is situated in a fantastic location, close to the famous bars and restaurants of Park Street.

I had a good stay at the hotel in Kolkata. The rooms were comfortable, and its location is a definite advantage—close to popular attractions such as Victoria Memorial and the vibrant Park Street area, making it convenient for sightseeing and dining. However, the TV service could be improved; I often wanted to watch the news, but only app-based options were available, which was somewhat inconvenient...

It was good stay and the house keeping are well trained and prompt in services. The boy Shayan was allotted at 11th floor and he did a great job in services. Desk attendant Moumita personally looked each and every thing for smooth operation.

It's only a 10-minute walk from the city center, very convenient. The staff service is excellent. However, breakfast is only Indian. The building is old and rather damp.

The room was upgraded, and the view was quite nice. The price was reasonable.

Good location for tourist spots but quite noisy if you don't like the constant noise of beeping horns from the nearby road (not sure if it is even possible to escape this in India). It did get better between say 10.30pm and 8am). The train (immediately outside the hotel entrance) screeches by but not frequently, boat engines can be heard in the distance but it's on a river 😅. There is a strong cigarette smell, you can hear the noise from the busy street. This hotel is like 2 to 3 star... Food is average.

Check in was at 2 pm but room was not ready even at 3 pm. The AC was not very effective, even at 16 degrees, was barely cool. Bed linen had stain marks and furnishings were faded and worn. Marks and stains on furniture. Staff were helpful.

The Elgin hotel is a beautiful old lady that needs a little bit of an up left but to compensate for that the quality of the food and the service and the interaction with the staff is five stars plus, I would definitely recommend anyone that’s looking for a wonderful place to stay to stay there we will gladly stay there again. This a great place to stay that is in the Victorian era mode. I hope the basic decorum and vibe of the place never changes. It is a throw back to another era and all of the pictures from earlier times in Kolkata and the hotel and news clips are very interesting. Yes there maybe some pealing paint (which to me is part of the charm) but there is a touch of class throughout - e.g. white table cloths...

The hotel's historic character is charming; the staff were helpful; and the breakfast buffet at the patio cafe was very good. Our room was a bit quirky: it opened directly onto the dining room, and there was no partition between the shower and the rest of the bathroom.

Pros - very good location even better than the hotels inside the New market. service staff are very helpful and cordial. Room and toilet are big and clean. breakfast is very good and has a good variety. Cons- the property is a bit old. the room tariff is a bit high but more or less this has been the standard rate around Park street and the neighborhood.

I stayed 4 nights in this hotel. The room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the biggest issue was the noise — the rooms are not soundproof, so I could not sleep well during my stay. They also need to improve their European breakfast options.

Kempton is a good 3 star perhaps masquerading as a 4 star. I stayed in an Imperial room with a wonderful giant tub, spotlessly clean, very friendly maids, porters and helpful management. I arrived at 3am which meant rousing everyone from the security guard to a tired check in clerk, but all was okay. Be aware that for a European the breakfast is poor and this is a "family hotel" so no alcohol at...

This was my third or fourth visit to Hotel Kempton I was given a lovely room and the excellent staff couldn’t have done more to make me feel welcomed. Enjoyed a good buffet breakfast and later a delicious meal in the restaurant with some dear Kolkata friends. Definitely recommended- Thank you!

This was the fourth or fifth time that I have stayed at the Kempton Hotel. I have always found it a property that provides value for money. The staff are helpful and courteous; rooms are clean; breakfast offers a variety. The hotel is also very centrally located. I will choose to stay there again when I next visit Kolkata.

The room was clean with little to no spots. However, there were smudges on the bed sheet. The room is perfect for two and the noise insulation is great.
