Firstly, apologies for the late review of this hotel and our stay. The excellent reviews on Trip Advisor was one of the main factors in choosing this hotel over many other possibilities in the area. Having spent the week with Salvatore, his sister Grazia and the rest of their families we are so glad we did. The hotel is very simple in its design and layout which works very well, but what makes the hotel stand out is the time and effort given by every member of the team. The food is top quality, with a different menu every night, no item was repeated on any course in the week we were there. The rooms are cleaned daily in a very efficient manner. The front desk provided an excellent service with information on various locations nearby, the best way to get to the locations and advice on what to see when there. The breakfast was buffet style for the majority of foods but if you wanted anything cooked this was ordered and brought to your table for you. So you had the combination of a continental style breakfast along with the opportunity to have a more English type should you wish. The evening meal consisted of four very generous courses of traditional home cooked Italian food, with a choice of at least three dishes on courses 2 and 3. This was the main event of the day, all residents dining at the same time, so if you are more interested in the quick buffet style dining associated with many hotels, this is not the place for you. We travelled on the local transport (buses and trains) to Pisa, Lucca and Forte Del Marme, this was all very straight forward thanks to the help from the hotel team, the facility to buy bus tickets from the front desk certainly helped with any travel plans. Overall, we had a lovely time at the Hotel and we will definitely be returning some time in the future and would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to the region. Thank you so much to Salvatore, Grazia and all the team for making our stay so special and for all the additional time and effort you gave me and my wife over and above the normal. We were both so grateful for all your help following our emergency hospital visit.

We were welcomed into the hotel by the owners who were so lovely. Our flight was delayed so we didn't get there until 9.30 when dinner ends. We asked if there was any chance to have something to eat as we had not eaten since breakfast. This was not a problem and they made us dinner. The next morning we wanted to go on some trips they helped us out by recommending we travel by bus it would be cheaper. We were able to buy our tickets through the hotel and with their help they told us the time the number of the bus and which side of the road to stand the time it will be leavingand returning. The food was excellent breakfast was plenty from eggs and bacon to continental plus fruit cereals so much choice. Then in the evening we had 4 courses of authentic Italian food which was out of this world. I would highly recommend this hotel and we are already planning on going back. The rooms were cleaned every day.

We enjoyed our stay at the Fortunella hotel in August. The food is very good and it's lovely sitting out in the garden to eat. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are basic but fine - our room overlooked the road but we didn't have a problem with noise. It's well located, within walking distance to the beach and bus stop- tickets can be bought from reception which is handy. There were a few negatives, the main one being the aircon in our room. It just didn't work properly. The man on reception looked at his screen & told me it was working but would get someone to look at it. Later on I was told by the lady that she had cleaned it and it was working now. This wasn't true, we could feel no cool air coming from it at all. It stayed like this the whole week, yet family members next door were having to turn theirs off because it got so cold. So when it comes to air conditioning it really depends which room you're in as to whether it's any good. We also had a shower that was more like a tap and for me was impossible to wash my hair under so had to use another family member's shower. I think we must've been in a room that hadn't been updated because the other 3 rooms in our party all had decent showers. Finally, in a past review someone mentioned they missed a meal in the hotel due to arriving late. We found the same except we missed breakfast on the morning we went home. We were leaving at 7am & when we asked if we'd be able to get some breakfast we were just told no, so had to wait until we'd checked in at the airport. I have to say, sometimes we found the staff very helpful & friendly and other times a bit dismissive and 'off'. The wine tour is worth doing we really enjoyed it. I'd suggest covering yourself in mosquito repellant as I didn't think to and got absolutely covered in bites. Overall a good hotel, although not sure I'd stay here again

We stayed here for 5 days and it was a really lovely place to stay. The staff were all amazing and always willing to help with anything. We were a five minute walk to the beach and a few minutes walk from the bus station which we used every day to take us to the train station for our trips to Lucca, Pisa, Florence and La Sepzia.
We will definitely be back!

We stayed at Hotel Fortunella in August, location is pretty good it’s close to the beach / bars and restaurants which is good They say that you get a discount at the beach club but we paid €50 every day over a 14 day period so that adds €700 on top of your holiday cost which isn’t good !!! About 3 nights in we realised that the air conditioning in our room didn’t work properly it got so hot, talking to other guests they also had this issue. Food & Drinks : food is a 4 course meal every night which is good to start with but gets pretty boring after a few nights, you have to pay for your drinks separately but you don’t get a bill so it’s done on memory of the staff, twice I was short changed which I was really upset about, once Salvatore gave me the wrong total and on another occasion his sister didn’t even bother giving me my change !!! With the air con issues and over charging me for drinks on a few occasions we would not return to Hotel Fortunella Owners are professional but not friendly !

I booked half board at this hotel because of the great reviews of the food and it did not disappoint. All four courses were so tasty and well presented. I love fish so I chose the fish option for my main course each evening - it was always perfectly cooked. The hotel is family-run and all the staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms, whilst being basic, are spotlessly clean and are cleaned every day. We had some beach days (the beach is lovely) as well as some days sightseeing. Public transport in Italy is great! We bought our bus tickets from reception and were given information about where the bus stops are and how to get to different places. We went to Lucca, Florence and Pisa. I would recommend this hotel if you want a basic hotel with good food and want a base to be able to go off sightseeing.

This is the 3rd time we have visited hotel Fortunella and I can honestly say that the experience is still fantastic. The service and hospitality is second to none. Salvatore and his sister are extremely friendly and very helpful, the staff are very efficient who help run the bar and restaurant. The rooms are quite spacious and have a large wardrobe and a large comfortable bed. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels are also changed daily. The hotel is spotless clean throughout. The food is served in the restaurant with breakfast being mainly buffet service but you can also order cooked breakfast and different coffee and also tea. The evening meal consists of 4 courses, a set 1st course of 4 tasty items and then a pasta or soup course then the main course and finally a sweet course each course has a choice of 3 different items usually fish/meat or vegetarian and 2 sweet options. The standard of food is exceptional. The hotel also offer bus tickets at the same price that you can buy them at shops or online. The area is well placed for traveling with great bus services close to the hotel and a good railway station at Viareggio to get to Florence and other areas. Both Luca and Pisa are also easy to visit by bus.I would also recommend a short bus trip to Piestrasanta. The resort itself has plenty of cafes/restaurants and bars and beaches both private and free public ones all very well equipped and great sandy beaches. The promenade is about 3 miles long if you want to walk to Viareggio with even more shops cafes and restaurants.

What a fantastic experience we had for our first time in Italy. The hotel is family run and they are so supportive. Nothing is a problem to them and are always willing to help you plan daily excursions and discount on the beach. We were looking for somewhere in Italy to experience Italy culture and authentic Italian food which was so delicious at this hotel. They was 4 courses every day we were never hungry. The hotel is 3 star rated for me it should be 4 stars.

Food and hospitality was outstanding we had a 4 course meal every evening. it was an all round a lovely experience. All the staff where helpful and friendly could not fault a thing. Rooms were always clean and comfortable. Getting from the Airport was only a short distance which helps. It was only 5 minutes walk from the beach. You can walk for miles along the promenade with lovely bars, cafes and shops. You can easily get the bus to local towns outside the hotel and tickets are supplied by the hotel. You can also get to Pisa and Lucca very easily. I can strongly recommend with confidence this hotel. Very kind regards from Alan and Lynn Snowdon

Just spent a week at Hotel Fortunella and I would highly recommend it. It’s a small family run hotel and the family and staff are friendly and accommodating. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the food is amazing. We had a lovely room which was bright and airy with a balcony that had views of the mountains, stunning. It’s a good base for exploring nearby places as you can catch a bus just up the road to the nearest train station where you can access Florence, Livorno, Pisa to name just a few. The fares on public transport are very reasonable. The only thing I would warn people about is the charges at the beach. If you are going for a beach holiday, you will need to budget in the prices to access the beach every day, however you get a card from Hotel Fortunella which gives you some discount.

The hotel has a very good location, close to the beach. It’s a family-run guesthouse with very kind owners. The town has a beautiful promenade connected to other towns.

A very nice, family-run hotel just about 10 minutes from the beach.
The rooms are modern and functionally furnished.
A small, working refrigerator, air conditioning, and a balcony made our stay even more enjoyable.
The food in the restaurant was also very varied and delicious.
We were continually cared by the very professional and friendly staff in the restaurant and at the reception.
We can definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely come back.

Although it’s a 3* hotel, and not much facilities provided, this is one of the best 3* hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The place was spotless clean and the staff were the most helpful and polite. Moreover, the woody garden offers a nice chilling atmosphere for relaxing over a drink (or two…). Would definitely recommend it for a budget accommodation place. Thanks again to the stuff for their hospitality and attention to details. Grazie mille! And All the Best!

Rooms are nice and clean, the bed was comfortable and quite big, the only issue is if you get a room without balcony you don't have where to hang your wet swimming dress and towels. The personnel is nice and friendly, only the owner was quite grumpy, the ladies were really nice and friendly. We left early on the last day and they prepared us a take away breakfast.
We had a really nice holiday 😁

I really didn’t wanna write this review but there’s been incredibly poor manner. I just hurt my eye on my second day here and had to go to the emergency room and had my eye all bandaged up, leaving me with half of my vision. I also vomited and caught a fever in the middle of the night right before I check out. As a young solo traveller who does not speak Italian, this has been bad enough. When I told them about it the next morning and asked to pay to stay for another day because I am too weak to move, they replied that there is no room left, despite the fact that I could still book a room on their online website. I suspected that they just did not want the trouble of having to deal with sick guests in their hostel.

They also hastily commented that the check out time is 10:30am without offering me any help to find a replacement hotel or any kind of help. I was basically hurried to leave the accommodation.

When I asked if they could bring breakfast up the room so that I don’t have to infect their guests at the dining room, they brought up tea only, i.e. liquid only and no actual food. That was not a huge problem so I proceeded to go down to get breakfast for myself in a mask.

While I was picking up my breakfast, a woman who I suspect to be the female owner had the audacity to come up to me and tell me AGAIN that there is no room left and that I have to check out by 10:30am. She did not give any condolences for my eye which was visibly all bandaged up or for my vomiting or fever. She basically just wanted to see me leave the accommodation. She was quite plainly unkind. She seems to be the type of person who only cares about the running of her business, since my checking-out late would cause inconvenience to her cleaning staff. I see no hospitality from her. I can’t believe that she would hurry a temporarily half-blind and ill person to pack up and leave. It’s simply impossible with the temporary blindness and the illness but she did not seem to understand that.

That said, the male owner was kind and his son has showed me incredible kindness. He drove me to the hospital after my eye injury and has assisted me in all ways possible including communicating with the medical staff on behalf of me who don’t speak Italian. I am very grateful to him but this could not be said to the other people in this establishment. I simply wish for more empathy and kindness in this region of the country which treats non-Italian speaking people differently.
