Reviews
Only 2 criticisms: the building within which it is located is a bit old and would need to be renovated and the rooms are a bit small. In any case, for a young couple (like us) should not be significant problems.
Location: Excellent. I chose this location on the basis that it was close the the Vatican museums. To enter the Sistine Chapel and St Peters usually requires long pants (although the rule wasn’t being applied this time around). The distance from the Vatican to the hotel allows a change of clothes in summer (Roman summers aren’t comfortable in Vatican attire). Google maps is incorrect with the address. The hotel is one block south of the Ottoviano metro station (south-west corner). It’s extremely easy to find and get to.
Although easy to find, the entry is difficult. There are a couple of steps into a tiny old style lift (two sets of doors need to be closed manually and there is only room for one person with luggage)
Rooms: We booked the honeymoon suite. It looks fabulous and unique in photos. I had high expectations for the hotel purely on the basis that it looks so cool. It couldn’t be further from the truth. The room is both impractical and small (it’s the largest in the hotel). The bed is squeaky. Some of the fittings are broken. And to make matters worse, it takes many light switches in many places just to turn out everything prior to sleep. The curtains don’t close fully, so prying eyes can take advantage of the fact that the shower is enclosed in glass and in full view of the room. Odd, but maybe it was worth visiting just for this weird element – albeit never again.
There is a feeling of things not being quite right. And it’s maybe due to this that the hotel offers a full mini bar of drinks on the house (despite the 2 Euro per drink price being clearly shown – they were true to their word of no charge). The breakfast selection was excellent for Italy, delivered to the door each morning (albeit late on one occasion)
The hot water system is terrible. My wife would have a hot shower, but if I followed her within 5 minutes, my shower would be luke warm. This was a common complaint through many of the rooms and something that needs to be resolved.
Staff: There are only a few rooms, so there only appears to be one staff member on at any one time. This staff member does everything from check you in to supply you with breakfast. The same staff member would “reset” the hot water and recommend a 5 minute wait for the next shower. Apart from that, the younger Filipino staff member was very helpful and did his best with what was a terrible facility.
Would I stay again: No! It never came together. The location and free drinks, and breakfast were excellent.
