Hotel 87 Eighty seven in Rome

We recently stayed at this hotel in Rome and, unfortunately, our experience didn’t quite reflect its four-star rating.
Our stay didn’t get off to a great start. We arrived before check-in and were told to return at 2pm, which was understandable. However, when we came back at 2pm, the room was still not ready and we were left waiting an additional 45 minutes before we could access it.
The room itself was disappointing. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and felt as though some of the slats may have been broken, making it difficult to sleep properly. The shower head was heavily covered in limescale, causing water to spray everywhere, and there was a crack in the shower screen which resulted in the entire bathroom flooding after each use. The bathroom tap was also very loose, so we had to be extremely careful when turning it on and off to avoid pulling it off.
The room was significantly smaller than advertised, with very limited storage space, which made unpacking difficult. We also found the soundproofing to be poor — we could hear other guests and noise from outside the room very clearly throughout our stay.
Upon departure, we arranged our transfer through the hotel after being informed by reception that card payments would be accepted. However, once we were in the taxi, the driver told us this was not possible, which was frustrating and put us in an awkward position.
Overall, the hotel did not meet our expectations for a four-star property. With better maintenance, clearer communication, and more accurate room descriptions, the experience could be greatly improved.

During our stay (20.2.2026–24.2.2026), we had no hot water in both rooms for 3 nights. Despite repeated complaints, the issue remained unresolved. On the final day, the manager assured us of a 50% refund and signed a document confirming the lack of hot water.

However, shortly after, he told us that a higher refund would only be given if we left a perfect 10 rating. This felt inappropriate and manipulative.

After submitting our complaint through Booking, the hotel denied responsibility and refused any compensation. This behavior is unacceptable.

This states it’s a 4star hotel and having come from one prior this was nothing of the calibre. We had no wifi in our room and could only gain connection from the reception area. On our second night we had no hot water for a shower. When contacting reception we were told that it would be reset and we would have to wait. After a long day of site seeing and it being 11 at night that’s the last thing you want to hear. We were told we would just have to wait until after midnight. Also being told to go take a shower in the gym area or move to another building in the late hours of the night is a major inconvenience. There was no sound proofing and full conversations could be heard making it hard to get a good nights sleep. Definitely not worthy of 4 stars. Location was the only thing good about this place, very disappointing waste of money.

The hotel is in another building, and you have to cross the road. The elevator is also difficult to operate in the old building, and lightning protection is necessary.

The main building and the annex are two completely different concepts. I can understand that a room in another old apartment was converted into a hotel room. You have to go to another building to check in and have breakfast. The room smells moldy and there is no panel on the back of the remote control. Although the location is good, you can stay in a better European hotel for this price.
