Hotel Hillarys in Osaka

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Hillarys. The location is perfect for exploring Osaka—it’s just a short walk to Kuromon Market for breakfast and very close to the Namba shopping areas. One of the best parts was the second-floor lobby area where they offer free soft drinks and even some bread/pastries. After a long day of walking around Dotonbori, it was so nice to come back to a friendly environment. The 7-Eleven right downstairs is also incredibly convenient for late-night snacks!

A lovely vintage-style hotel with all the necessary amenities. The room was very clean and surprisingly spacious—something I didn’t expect, as my past experiences with Japanese hotels have usually been limited by small room sizes. After a full day of walking, being able to enjoy a warm bath was absolutely wonderful.
The location is another big plus. It’s perfect if you don’t mind walking to popular sightseeing spots like Kuromon Market and Dotonbori, while still staying away from the crowded, noisy areas. There’s also a McDonald’s right next door, which is convenient for grabbing quick food. Many of the rooms have windows, which is a huge bonus.
A few small drawbacks: there were no bathrobes in the room, and no cutlery for food or tea/coffee. You may need to request these at the front desk or check the amenities area near the front desk hallway.
Overall, a great stay and a hotel I’d happily recommend.

The room is clean and comfortable, though a bit small — typical for Japan.

The location is convenient, and the service is attentive. The room is compact but perfectly functional. Breakfast is 25 yuan per person and quite plentiful. Fresh towels, bath towels, and toiletries are delivered daily, and you can pick up pajamas, combs, and other items from the lobby.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel on our last night. It was pretty good value for money, but the decor really didn't suit our taste – the mirror directly faced the bed. I understand that the room might be small, but the front desk gave us an end room. As two girls, we really didn't want to stay in an end room. I tried to communicate with the front desk to see if we could change rooms. They kept telling me to wait, and after a long wait, it was finally my turn. Then, they went to ask someone else for their opinion and finally said we'd have to pay 1000 yen to switch rooms. When I went downstairs to change rooms, my friend ran into another hotel staff member in the hallway and also mentioned that we didn't want an end room, as it's considered bad luck where we're from. That person immediately said they could switch it for us and would help us later, but in the end, nothing was done about changing the room. My friend and I stayed up very late that night because we were genuinely a bit scared. The room layout, lighting, and the mirror all felt quite unsettling.

A hotel that is very convenient and central, near the best district and very kind staffs

I hadn't booked a late check-in, but when I arrived at the front desk around 4 PM to check in (despite the 3 PM check-in time stated), I was shocked to be told, 'You're on a late check-in plan, so you can't check in until 8 PM!' When I showed them my booking details, they admitted that Trip.com was at fault and asked me to mention it in a survey, so I'm reporting it now. The hotel explained that they had received the booking via Rakuten Travel, and speculated that Trip.com likely made an error when processing this specific reservation. Fortunately, they quickly prepared a room for me, and I was able to get into my room after only a short wait, which was a relief.

The hotel's location was fantastic. It was close to several stations, and all the main tourist attractions were within walking distance. But the biggest advantage, in my opinion, was the large 7-Eleven conveniently located right on the ground floor. It was great to be able to grab a cold beer and enjoy it right away. I urgently needed more Japanese Yen, and the ATM there came in very handy! A small tip: I was able to withdraw cash using my credit card, even without a specific travel card, and the fees weren't high at all! For every 10,000 Yen, the fee was just 110 Yen. It seemed to process as a short-term loan, which you can just repay once you're back home – something to keep in mind! Also, breakfast was available for just 500 Yen, and I was satisfied with the simple yet warm meal. I stayed here based on a friend's recommendation, and it offers excellent value for money! I'd definitely stay here again! :)

The hotel is quite nice. They have a free drinks machine for pop, coffee, etc on reception floor.

Sadly hotel is purely money orientated. I extended my stay for a day while I was there, and instead of allowing me to stay in the room, they wanted me to check out at 10:00am and check back in at 15:00, even though I had paid for the full day. They wanted to open up the room for ‘short stay’ customers (basically allow a couple to go in there and bang, or a guy to bring a ****** in there for a while). This felt pretty gross.

Also on check out morning, a few minutes after 10:00am, they came banging on the door and told me I had to leave as there were a short term couple needed a room. They told me I would be charged an extra 500 as I was a few minutes late, so I agreed and said I would check out at 12. They then refused and said they would cancel the charge, just to be out in 5 minutes.

This was my first time in Japan, so I don’t know if all hotels are like this here, but this one made me feel rushed and that they were waiting to get rid of me to get the next money in.
