I genuinely wanted to leave a 5-star review because the family here are, on a personal level, super sweet. When we arrived for our almost week-long stay, they welcomed us so warm-heartedly. They frequently invited us for tea, helped us out, and even folded our laundry and put it nicely into the wardrobe.
Their kindness felt incredibly genuine, which is why the end of our stay feels so hurtful and disappointing.

Unfortunately, behind the friendly hospitality, we felt taken advantage of financially. The first red flag was when they tried to book a mountain tour for us and quoted a price that was 1,000 higher than the actual cost—which we assumed was a heavy commission, but we let it pass.

The real breaking point was check-out. We moved from a very large room to a much smaller room, yet were charged the exact same price ($25/night). Worse, we were charged over $15 for just two loads of laundry (one white, one colors). I have traveled extensively and have never seen such an exorbitant price, not even in expensive countries like Germany. It left us feeling scammed.

Aside from the financial disappointment, the stay itself had some challenges. The hotel is far away from everything; you have to walk at least 15 minutes just to find food. Furthermore, while we initially thought the internet was good, it was not stable enough to actually get remote work done, and we lost electricity three times in five days (which I think is normal in the area).

It breaks my heart to write this because the staff were so lovely to us to our faces. But hospitality requires honesty. I feel deeply let down that such sweet people ultimately treated us like a target to get more money out of. 😞

One of the absolute best places we stayed in all of the “Stans!” We spent nearly a week here and were very happy with our stay.
The rooms each have a private bathroom, were large and very clean and comfortable. The entire place is newly remodeled and very nice.
The couple that run the guesthouse are lovely people. It is clear that they truly enjoy meeting travelers from around the world. They spoke English and were happy to teach us Kyrgyz as well as learn other languages. Every time we sat down to a meal, we were offered homemade jams, breads, butter and other tasty treats. They also arranged a day tour to some of the local sites at a fair price.
The guest house is located a comfy 10 minute walk to the center and had a great view of the mountains from the rooms.
We definitely recommend and look forward to visiting again.

You have done a great job Jibek👏👏

P.S. to anyone who want to explore The Altyn Arashan the host is able to arrange a driver with a good price

Emir Guest house was a perfect experience for us. The heart of the house are the owners, they truly made us feel at home with their kindness, warmth, humour and calmness. We have been on the road for 8 months and they are easily the best hosts we have had. They were beyond accommodating - helping us book the Ala Kul trek and even driving us to the start point at a discounted rate. We were cooked a delicious breakfast which included home grown vegetables and even a delicious dinner (even though this isn’t a service they offer, they’re just that kind!). The rooms were super clean and light and the wifi was speedy. We wish we had more time with them for they truly made our time in Karakol relaxing, fun and special.

Couple running the business are the most lovely people we have met during our travel. They are so helpful, welcoming and friendly - almost like a family. I’m missing you guys ❤️. Breakfast were delicious, rooms were nice n tidt with private bathroom, architecture of the house is really interesting and I find it pretty. I recommend this place 1000% and also hope to come back some day. Take care!
