Hotel Ipanema Beach in L'Arenal

Disappointing.

We weren’t happy so checked out a day early.

Clean nicely decorated room, but the second day we came in and there was an awful smell of sewerage. We had to ventilate the room for it to leave. It was coming from a vent so we had to sleep with windows open. The bed was comfortable but wasn’t well made so the bottom sheet kept coming undone. There is a coffee machine but they don’t provide water. We were told that we can’t use the tap water so should go to the supermarket to buy. The receptionist seemed surprised that we had coffee pods in the room to start off with.

The hotel gives the appearance of being 4 star with the design and atmosphere but I would say it’s actually 2 stars. We were expected to wear a plastic bracelet on our arm to indicate that we were guests since they’ve had robberies.

I wanted to have breakfast but couldn’t pay at the dining room. I was expected to go to reception to pay first and show proof of payment. Because it was 15 mins before service end, they wouldn’t allow me to do this or even make a plate or grab a fruit and few pastries to put aside and come back for after paying.

There was a phone in the room but no indication of a number to dial to reception. We asked for information and were told to read all the signs on the reception table, there were 10 A4 stands!

We were asked to go down to reception to sign a form, when we said we would do it when we came down, the receptionist got upset and said that she doesn’t want to have to come up to make us sign it. When we saw it was because we were told that we made too much noise after I accidentally knocked over an unstable bedside table.

The second receptionist was nice. But when we said that we weren’t happy they didn’t even try to accommodate us by changing room. No apology.

There was a door stopper on the floor that was in the room passageway and we bumped our feet painfully walking into it.

The beach is very close by and it’s relatively nice. The area is aimed for low end tourism and the majority of the restaurants are glorified kebab shops.

The area seems to cater to low end tourism. It’s a shame because the hotel made us believe that we were going to have a 4 star experience in a beautiful location. The area isn’t pretty and the majority of the shops are cheap tourist shops selling tacky mementos and many with sexual orientation. I wouldn’t want to have my child exposed to these things.

There were one or two nice shops selling local handcrafted goods. The hotel is close to grocery stores and German pubs. It wasn’t an authentic Mallorquin experience at all.
