Paradise Beach Resort Samui Hotel in Ban Khlong Mae Nam

We enjoyed the resort. Our beachfront room, the staff and setting are (mostly) wonderful, and I would love to give them 5 stars. I just can’t. There were several problems that we could not resolve.

We had a very nice room with our own deck, day bed, beach chairs and hammmock. It could have been the most relaxing setting on Samui, but the room air conditioning did not work well. I set it to 18C (~65F) and the room would not cool down. We had to run the fan at full blast and the A/C at full blast and it was still too hot in the room at night to sleep comfortably. It may have gotten down to 78F, but it was probably closer to 80 degrees in the room at night.

We mentioned this twice. Twice we were told it was fixed. We stayed four nights but should probably have moved to a different hotel after the first night. That’s on us. We were told we could check out any time, but the setting was so peaceful, we decided to stay and hope their fruitless efforts to make the A/C work would allow for some sleep. Instead, we were just melting/sweating at night and exhausted from our stay.

Also, the waterfront pool was under construction. We were not notified about the construction in advance, which they should have done, but were given a BHT1000 credit towards a meal at the restaurant. A thousand bhat goes a long way at the restaurant. Had one meal there and enjoyed it thoroughly, other than the smoking. See below.

There are two pools, and we spent a lot of time cooling off in the second pool, which is just lovely. But the construction was somewhat intrusive and noisy.

Lastly, this is NOT a non-smoking resort. We were really very surprised by the numbers of smokers. We had to frequently move restaurant tables and our beach chairs to avoid smoke. Minor inconvenience, but that is worth noting for those who are sensitive to smoke.
