Reviews
There was a airwick air parfume scent in the shower. If the room is clean enough this is not needed.
1. The grounds are incredibly dirty – there were even leaves in the pool.
2. The beach area and around it were an absolute mess. There were some metal barrels, piles of trash, plastic, and the beach itself wasn't cleaned of leaves or dirt. In the water, there were bags and plastic bottles.
3. We were given a room with a non-functioning air conditioner. Or rather, it worked, but it was so loud we felt like jumping out the window to escape the racket. I went down to show them a video of how loud the AC was, and they moved us to a room on the first floor. There, an even bigger surprise awaited us: dampness that made even the bedsheets feel wet. Something was biting us all night in bed; I assume it was some kind of mites.
And when people on the upper floors flushed their toilets, it was even louder than the broken AC on the third floor. We just wanted to pack up and leave the hotel in the middle of the night.
And all this for 17,000 per night.
We came from Phuket hoping for a good experience, but it turned into a nightmare.
We were upgraded to lighthouse from the sister hotel across the street for free as there was an issue with the water there.
Staff were super accommodating and very friendly.
Called the bike shop for us and had a guy pick us up and drive us to the shop.
I really appreciated fresh towels daily and the cold/hot water dispenser in the halls.
No need for bottled water that tastes of plastic, no need to wait for the kettle to boil.
Fresh beach towels available daily at the front desk aswell that were very big and perfect for laying out on the beach and drying off after the water.
They have surfing lessons available on site and the beach there is perfect for catching waves.
The room we were in had a glass wall in between the bath room and bed room so I could watch my gf shower, (Very romantic) or poo. (Not so romantic)
The TV was massive and a smart tv too so we could sign in to Netflix and just chill.
Very nice pool also
I had a great experience staying at Kokotel Lighthouse Khao Lak. The place is clean, comfortable, and has a calm, relaxing vibe — perfect for a peaceful getaway.
A special mention to Sai, who made my stay even better! She is very friendly, always smiling, and communicates really well in English, which made everything so easy. She’s such a kind and genuine person — truly a great example of Thai hospitality.
Thank you, Kokotel team, and especially Sai, for the warm welcome and memorable stay. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Khao Lak! 🌴😊
I wasn’t expecting luxury, given it’s advertised as a 3-star hotel, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be this poor. Don’t expect sun loungers on the beach or cocktails overlooking the sea — the beach area has been badly eroded, and there’s no proper seating or restaurant space by the water. The hotel itself feels like a building site and is very run down.
The room was extremely damp — dangerously so — and there was a strong smell of sewage. Even basic services like bellboy assistance were non-existent. Overall, a very disappointing experience and not somewhere I’d recommend.
Location
The hotel is located in a dead end road. Therefor the area is very calm. Close to the hotel you can find two small lovely restaurants, laundry service, a small shop with basic groceries and a counter for booking trips and adventures. From the seaside of the hotel you can enter the beach directly by passing a small temple area or heading to the breakfast restaurant which is directly at the beach.
Beach
The beach at the hotel is public but was in october not crowded at all. There were only a few hotel guests and some surfers I could watch for hours. Perfect sand with very few small stones in it. I didn't find any plants in the water. The ground is not steep. During our five days there the waves were about 1 to 1.5 metres high. The surfers had a lot of fun. There is a small surf shop where you can book lessons and rent surfboards if all sizes. Also Bodyboards which are perfect to have some fun without beeing a experienced surfer.
But in my eyes the most comfortable at the beach is the massage shop. You can enjoy all kinds of massages. Basic Thai Massage 1hr for 300 Baht. There were enough free sunbeds (for free) to enjoy the beach.
Room
We had a family room on the ground floor.
The bathroom had everything we needed. A Spacy shower with a small head and a rainshowerhead. It was a bit short of options for hanging our stuff and towels. Maybe we wouldn't need to change our towels daily if we could let them dry properly on hooks and bars. Drying them outside was no option for us because of the humidity of 90 to 97% during october.
In our family room they were two kingsize double beds. The beds were very comfortable for us. Thick matresses with a soft topper and comfy linings. More than enough space for the three of us. The room offers space for your luggage and belongings but instead of a wardrobe there is a bar for hanging some of your clothes. The veranda which we didn't use was equiped with two chairs and a small table. The style was a vit industrial with blank concrete ceiling and steel tubes for the wiring. The desk was large and also blank concrete. We liked the style.
Breakfast
Most travelers know that breakfast all over the world is different. The international basics like bread, sausage, jam, serveral types of eggs and cereals are offered here too. The breakfast is at the hotel dining 'room' direct at the beach. It's a large roofed ooen area. Perfect for a start in the day. Enjoy the beach and the waves already at breakfast. You can also enjoy some local meals like changing soups and currys or other warm dishes. The coffeemachine helps you to start the day as well as the different juices. The best in my eyes were the fresh omelet and the fruits.
Services
It's not a five star hotel. And that's more than ok. Who wants the service of a five star hotel should book one. However the services was great and friendly. We also needed to bring our luggage to our rooms but come on, I could do it at the airport too, so no problem for me.
The hotel offers beach towels and umbrellas. and the rooms are cleaned daily (if you want). We needed an extra umbrella and the nice ladies at the reception helped us without hesitation. Always friendly staff at the reception, the restaurant and house keeping. Nothing to complain.
Very nice calm hotel (at the time we were there) with a perfect location at the beach. Cosy rooms with very comfortable beds. Just a few minutes to some mire restaurants and shops. And a few minutes more to the main street where you find infinite restaurants and shops for all your needs including about 4(!) 7eleven. I recommend the local supermarket in northern direction on the left side of the main road. We definitly would book again.
