Apsara Beachfront Resort & Villa in Khao Lak

i recently spent 2 weeks here, and my 60th birthday. The hotel is lovely, the food a staff are amazing, as is the location. We went on lots of trips out to elephant sanctuaries, James Bond island, temples and blessings. The whole experience and holiday was excellent.

Loved almost everything about the Apsara. It’s a little remote but that’s exactly what is lovely about it. We bought several trips through the hotel and they were really high quality - much better food and vehicles than I’ve experienced on previous trips to Thailand, although a bit more pricey. The hotel guests are mostly English or English speaking, in contrast to many others in Thailand which are seemingly dominated by the Russian hordes.

Everything you could possibly want in a holiday. So much so that we are returning next month.

We spent several days at Apsara after a few weeks travelling and exploring across Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand and decided we needed a place to chill before heading home. Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villa was an excellent choice. We had a villa with its own pool accessible from both rooms, a central living area and an outdoor shower. The villas are separated from the hotel by a small lagoon, with tuk tuks on call to drop or collect you from the villa whenever you wish. The resort has all the pools and bars you'd expect in a resort and miles upon miles of beach a few steps away. Situated a few kilometres from the town of Khao Lak has its advantages and disadvantages. The resort is quiet and tranquil, but you either need a car, a scooter or to catch one of the pick-up truck taxis to get to town. We rented a scooter for the time we were there and had the freedom to come and go as we pleased. The hotel also has an array of water sports surf gear for free use by residents, which was always in use. Families with young kids may wish for a resort with more water slides, etc but for a more adult group, Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villa is an excellent place to put your feet up and enjoy the good life.

Best hotel ive ever stayed in. Lovely warm welcome on arrival. Complimentary thai tea and warm face cloth to freshen up while you check in. Superb beach. Lovely food. Great staff throughout. Great communication, i booked independently with the hotel. Loved so much im def going to be a returning customer. Rooms are well equipped i had deluxe. Ild feel completely safe as a solo traveller in the future. (Age 56 atm) ive worked in the hotel industry and this hotel is far superior to the 4* hotel i worked in bk here in uk.

We stayed here for our honeymoon in March (a massively delayed review!) and honestly, a piece of my heart was left in this hotel. We stayed on the villa side, and from start to finish it was absolutely incredible.

I have stayed in a lot of hotels, but never — ever — anywhere like this. It makes every other hotel feel second-rate in comparison. Everything was perfect: the setting, the atmosphere, the staff, the little touches that made it so special. It truly is the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

We were originally going to book the Maldives, but chose here instead — and I have zero regrets about that decision. I will definitely, definitely be back.

If you’re thinking about booking, just do it. You won’t regret it.

A Disappointing Stay, Lacking the Thai Hospitality I've Come to Expect
I have been a returning guest at this hotel over the past three years, having stayed more than ten times. Unfortunately, my recent visit was particularly disappointing.
The check-in and check-out process continues to be a major source of frustration. The staff at the reception desk lacked the warmth and "Thai smile" that guests expect. The atmosphere felt less like a welcoming experience and more like an intimidating one. I believe it would significantly improve the guest experience to have more Thai staff on the reception team, not the Filipino mafia.
While the rooms are generally acceptable, I was disappointed to find that ongoing renovations meant the best rooms were unavailable. I am grateful that I only booked one night. The basic breakfast was good, and I must commend the Karkinos restaurant for its beautiful ambiance and excellent food.
A significant issue during my stay was the power outage from 1:00 AM to 4:30 AM, which left the room without air conditioning. I had to make several calls to staff before learning that a power pole was down. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of apology or acknowledgment from the reception staff upon checkout.
Overall, this was a very disappointing stay due to the ongoing issues with the front desk staff and the poorly handled power outage.

Excellent place, value for money. Great breakfast area as well as great surroundings. Best beach for surfing

The hotel is near memories beach, which for surfers are very close. You can just walk to memory beach or call hotel staff to pick you up. The hotel is a bit old, but everything is well-maintained.

I had a great experience staying at Apsara Resort. The staff were warm, friendly, and always ready to help, which really made a difference. The bar was fantastic—great drinks and atmosphere! And the location? Absolutely amazing. Whether you’re there to relax or explore, it’s the perfect spot. Highly recommend!
