Mad Monkey Chiang Mai - Hostel in Chiang Mai City

Great place if you are looking for a cheap place to sleep and put your stuff. It's not super fancy and maybe not the most modern place you could stay. The lighting/plumbing needs some work but it is good for the money. They give you free coffee and tea in the morning. It's right outside of the main city center so close to the action but not too close. Can be a bit loud because it is close to some bars. Other than that they are friendly!

I didn't actually go here. I turned up at the wrong hotel and the place was fully booked 😑

The staff could have turned me away but instead they asked around the local area to see if anything else was available. I then decided to go to the actul hotel I had booked and she said she could call a taxi for me.

Seemed like a decent place from what I could see outside as well.

Cheap and close to everything. If you are not into the night life, lady boys, and "massage parlors" - then not the part of town for you. But if you like those things or can get past them, coolio.

I liked it as a no frills guesthouse for 350 baht a night for a fan room. all I wanted was a place to stash my stuff and sleep and that's what I got. I stayed almost two weeks.
The owner was very cool, speaks English and was really laid back and easygoing.
Sometimes I paid a few days in advance, sometimes day to day but everyone of staff there was polite and cool and nobody messed with me and it wasn't a problem.
I had a super budget room so was a shared bathroom down the hall but there was never a line.
The floors were a lil bit squeaky.
At night the bars were loud till about 2 am. The war across the road had prayers at 7:30 am. I saw it as a bonus.
Summoning it up, no frills budget room easy walk to night market, Tapae Gate via the so is and the restaurants along east moat. Rot dang and tuk turks all day available. 7 eleven and pharmacies abound.
