Reviews
The room was dirty, every peace of furniture on the room was dirty/smelly/ broken or about to break.
Thanksfully for some reason we got upgraded so instead of the standard room we got a room on the last floor with an amazing view. But this is the only good thing.
No comment about the breakfast which is served in another hotel, no variety, and the few things served are not good. Breakfast is served until 10.30 but if something is finished no metter if it is 8/9 am they will not replace it.
The people working there were friendly but unhelpful in so many different levels. We needed an iron and they asked to come in the evening to collect it, when we got back to ask for it the same receptionist said they have never had one and he had to go get one from another hotel, which i thought it was hilarious.
On top of it my boyfriend wanted to organise a surprise for my birthday, he planned everything with the guy at the reception and once it was the moment he just ‘forgot’.
It says it is a 3 stars hotel, donMt believe it! It is a scam! They should have a star just to be jenerous.
Place not to go
The build is old and has lots of DIY and broken stuff which makes it unsafe at times to use/open things. The rooms are VERY small, with no space to even open the suitcase and the double bed barely fitting two people.
We were offered an upgrade on arrival but then on the following day we were asked to move to another room due to “misunderstanding” as he needed that room for the following day.
The breakfast was in another hotel in the same street, tasteless and had not variety, nothing like shown in the pictures.
I booked it via booking.com and felt completely scammed as nothing that was as described by the reviews and photos. They advertised it as a huge saving with the discount offered in the site and made it as a 3* - 1 star would be too much.
Ismail made an effort to be friendly but everything felt fishy in this place.
Would NOT recommend to anyone.
Make your own research as there are better hotels in the same place that are worth the price difference.
On the booking app this hotel has positive reviews and the rooms look nice in photos which is the reason why I initially booked it. I realize now that I should have read the google reviews as well but whenever I booked hotels in Istanbul before I had no problems whatsoever. However, this time I wanted to try a hotel in a new location and I was scammed by this hotel in particular. I originally booked the Sirkeci Esen Hotel but when I contacted someone from the hotel to send me the exact location before my arrival they sent me the address of the Grand Esen Hotel. I was confused but I brushed it off because on google maps is showed that these hotels are in the same street/row. I soon realised that these hotels are probably owned by the same person and they just put you randomly in a hotel they want based on availability regardless of the one you chose on the booking app which is really rude and unprofessional. So yes, we eneded up at the Grand Esen Hotel even though we booked the Sirkeci Esen Hotel.
The rooms are NOTHING like the photos and I’m not sure if they stole photos from other hotels on the internet or if they only took photos of one or two good-looking rooms in the hotel to catfish people. The rooms we got were very small, unkept and they smelt really bad. We felt nauseous several times because of the bad hygiene and we even saw ants in the bathroom 🤢 My sister and I were sharing a room and we barely had any space to move around or get ready in the morning. The doors don’t function properly and they are very loose and hard go close all the way which makes you feel very unsafe to leave your personal belongings inside. The doors also make a loud beeping noise when you try to open them which is very annoying because you can hear this noise everytime other guests in the hotel leave or enter their rooms and it’s especially annoying when you’re trying to fall asleep. The walls also seem to be made out of paper because you can hear ALL the noises coming from other people’s rooms and the reception. The staff and other guests weren’t respectful at all and they were talking at the reception until late in the evening when most people are trying to fall asleep.
The breakfast which is included in the price is not even in the Grand Esen Hotel and they send you to have breakfast at Sirkeci Esen Hotel instead. The food was edible but it was tasteless and bland and there was no variety too choose from.
The only positive (but not at all redeeming) quality of this hotel is the location because it is very close to the Eminonu ferry port, tram and Marmaray metro station.
I could write many more negative things about this hotel but I have highlighted the most important ones. Overall, it was a horrible experience and I wouldn’t recommend it at all!! There are far many better hotels to get for the same price.
The bathroom too has taps of the bygone era. Breakfast was also so-so. We just ate it to get a kickstart for the day. The only plus point of the hotel is the location. Metro and tram stations are just a 2 min walk and the ferry is also just another 5-10 mins. The receptionist was rather friendly. He upgraded us to a suite for free. Although, the view was outstanding, stay here only if you want easy access to the city!!!
The lobby manager, the one with glasses, not the young man on duty at night, told us that the hotel did not have the standard double room (19 square meters) we had booked, but wanted us to live in an economical double room, whose room size was very very small and the bed is smaller size. This is ridiculous! Are you saying that Agoda fabricated pictures of a standard double room? After I raised my objection, he was extremely rude and told me to either communicate with Agoda or accept the small room, or stay in a family room and pay him extra 21 euros a day. At my insistence, he asked someone else to show me a room in the attic, larger than an economy double. I accepted the room, but later found out that the bathroom light was broken, the shower head wouldn't attach to the wall, the toilet was under the sink, and to use the toilet you had to put your hand on the sink. I don't know if you do that with every guest who books a standard room. This hotel was my worst experience in Istanbul!
I was there with my Wife and let me tell you, never again. We went for 7 nights but stayed only for 1 so we could book another Hotel. Its filthy, loud and so unfrienldy that we bearly even could sleep that 1 night (see the Pictures). Dirty bathroom, bedsheets and room. We wanted to write a Review on the Website we booked it on and guess what ? THE HOTEL CANCELLED OUR RESERVATION SO WE CAN´T WRITE A REVIEW !!!!
DON´T GO THERE !!!
Additionally, our bed room door didn't fully close either leaving a little gap. We felt really unconfortable and unsafe.
