Reviews
Cleanliness: 4/5 - Fairly Satisfactory
The hotel's cleanliness was reassuring, which is why I gave it 4/5. Upon check-in, I inspected every corner of the room. The bedding was brand new, with no odors or stains. The bathroom tiles and glass partitions were sparkling clean, and the sink and toilet were thoroughly cleaned, with no limescale or dirt residue. The daily housekeeping service was also very punctual. The staff promptly changed used towels, cleaned up the trash, and even tidied up scattered items. The attention to detail showed the cleaning team's care. The only point I deducted was a little dust accumulated in the gap behind the bedside table, a minor oversight that didn't affect occupancy.
Environment: 4/5 - Fairly Satisfactory
The environment also receives a 4/5 rating, with its core advantage being its superb location. The hotel is situated in the heart of Sultan Ahmed's old city, just minutes' walk from famous attractions like Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace. Stepping outside, you're surrounded by charming local cobblestone streets, making shopping and dining incredibly convenient. Moreover, the hotel's tucked away in the alleyways avoids the noise of the main streets, making it exceptionally quiet at night, undisturbed by traffic. The hotel's public areas are also stylish; the lobby features a retro Ottoman style with exquisite carpets and decorations, and the courtyard is adorned with greenery, making it a pleasant place to relax. The main drawback is the narrowness of the surrounding old city streets, which can occasionally cause some noise from tourists gathering outside during peak season, but this is largely inaudible once the room windows are closed.
Service: 4.5/5 - Satisfactory
The service is absolutely the hotel's trump card, making the 4.5/5 rating well-deserved. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, the staff displayed exceptional warmth and attentiveness: the doorman proactively helped with our luggage, and the receptionist was not only quick but also patiently explained the hotel facilities to us in English, even hand-drawing a simple map of the surrounding area, marking good restaurants and less-traveled photo spots. During our stay, we once wanted to book an airport shuttle, messaging the front desk in the early morning, and surprisingly received a quick reply and had it arranged. When a friend accidentally broke a water glass, the staff came to clean it up without a single complaint and even thoughtfully gave us two extra bottles of water. The only minor regret was that when we inquired about local day tours, the front desk's explanation was somewhat general and lacked detailed suggestions; otherwise, I would have given this section full marks.
Facilities: 3/5 - Average
The facilities were the most disappointing aspect of our stay, hence the 3/5 rating. Firstly, there's the issue of room size. We booked a deluxe double room, but the actual space was smaller than expected. With our luggage unfolded, the aisle was practically a narrow strip, making it difficult to even turn around, let alone move around the room. The furniture was also quite old; the desk had worn edges, the TV was a small, outdated model with limited channels, and the shower in the bathroom had inconsistent water pressure and occasional brief interruptions in the hot water supply. While basic toiletries and complimentary bottled water were provided, compared to the "premium hotel" positioning, the outdated facilities and cramped space definitely lowered the experience. Those who prioritize spacious accommodations might find it uncomfortable.
Overall, this hotel's strengths lie in its location and service, making it suitable for travelers like us who primarily focus on sightseeing and don't have high expectations for room amenities. However, those seeking spacious accommodations and modern facilities might want to reconsider.
Unfortunately, the housekeeping is poor and the rooms are dark.
No soundproofing.
Mediocre breakfast.
High price for the type of property.
Parking was available, which was very convenient. Just make sure to inform the hotel in advance if you’re arriving by car.
Breakfast was absolutely phenomenal – a rich and delicious selection served on the terrace with a breathtaking view of the sea. Starting the day with such scenery and great food was a real treat.
Overall, our experience was amazing. We left with beautiful memories and would gladly return. Highly recommended! 🇹🇷😊🇷🇸
I checked into the Catch Sultanahmet - Special Class hotel, which I booked through trip.com between June 21, 2025, and June 27, 2025, around 12:30 AM on June 22, 2025. However, shortly after checking in, I noticed that the room I was assigned to was significantly different in appearance and standard than the one shown on the booking platform and photos.
I reported this to the receptionist. The receptionist explained that third-party booking platforms often do not share identical room photos. To ensure customer satisfaction, he explained that he would contact the hotel manager the next day to find a solution. If a room became available, although not guaranteed, I could upgrade to a room similar to the one shown in the photos on the website. However, he also explained that there were no other available rooms at the time and that no immediate changes could be made.
Furthermore, the room we were assigned unfortunately did not provide adequate accommodations. There was a very loud generator noise in the room, and all sounds from other rooms were clearly audible within the room. The soundproofing was quite inadequate. I didn't think I could comfortably stay even one day due to these conditions.
Approximately two hours after checking in, I decided to cancel my stay and left. I requested a refund through Trip.com and detailed the situation in writing. Despite this, no refund was issued. Furthermore, the receptionist assured me that the checkout process hadn't been completed through the system and that she would contact me regarding the matter, but no communication was received.
As a result, I was forced to pay ₺31,354.35 for this reservation, which I never actually stayed in. I would like to point out that the difference between the room photos presented on the booking platform and the actual rooms was misleading, and basic comfort features like soundproofing fell far short of expectations. If I had known the actual room photos and room conditions before booking, I would not have chosen this property.
Based on this experience, I don't plan to choose this property or similar booking platforms in the future. I recommend that other guests considering accommodation pay particular attention to visuals and descriptions before booking.
Cons:
- the room is really small, but we knew what we were getting into.
- very poor soundproofing, unfortunately you can hear your neighbors going up the stairs and packing up their room.
Pros:
- delicious breakfasts, lots of variety;
- friendly and helpful staff, Russian-speaking staff;
- great terrace with a sea view;
- beautiful well-kept hotel courtyard.
