Trouvail Miami Beach Hotel in Miami Beach

The location is superb, easy walking to the beach and plenty of great coffee and restaurants. The atmosphere was fun, casual and lively. It's a vibrant spot at the weekend. The room was a disappointment. Furnishings were old and in poor repair. There was a damp musty smell in the room that at times was very strong. There are no windows so it was difficult to air out. The smell could have been the oversized (too large for the space) fridge or the air conditioning unit. The floor was old tile, that wasn't extremely clean. The bath towels were very small and not terribly good quality. There are no robes provided. The room in general was dreary and not very inviting. The bed was comfortable however and the shower was decent. The room was impacted by noise from the lobby bar, and anytime anyone was in the hallway or room above it was noisy and impactful. If you don't mind the sounds of a bar then it's ok. If you are looking for peace and quiet, then I'd look for alternatives. The service was a strange mix. The text concierge worked very well, and you can text requests for service that are responded to quickly. I requested fresh towels via text and they arrived very quickly. However phone calls to reception went unanswered. Some of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, but some were visibly overwhelmed and forgot requests. It would take quite a while to get a simple question answered. There was almost always a line of people waiting for front desk service. Something to note about the bar and restaurant, it's not open every day. So Monday and Tuesday it was closed, and you have to go elsewhere for food. There was passable hotel coffee at reception but tiny cups, and they were always running out. On the positive side the pool is lovely, it's heated and charming and very relaxing. The bell hop/bag storage option worked really well, and was a big help. The bar and restaurant were fun and decent quality - when they were open. The in room safe is a positive amenity. Overall my expectations had been for a 3 star hotel but considering the room deficiencies, it was firmly 2 star. The room was absolutely not 3 star quality. It really wasn't good value for money - and, yes, I do realize Miami is expensive. The hotel itself has positives and it's fun, but the room was just poor. Still had fun but I wish I had been aware of some of this going into it.
