The hotel, contrary to Booking’s reservation policy, was only supposed to charge one night as a deposit. However, they charged the full stay in advance, violating that policy, and have been slow and uncooperative in refunding the amount.

Sonder do marketing and promoting their very sleek, refined image very well however they do little to live up to this. We arrived at The Abbey hotel to the beautifully decorated, light and airy reception area which on closer inspection is a little tired. The communal areas need a little TLC, the carpets of the stairs and corridors are quite frankly filthy and in desperate need of a proper clean. We hoped this was where our disappointment ended but it only worsened when we got to our room. The room was dirty, the floors were filthy, our socks where black, there was dirt, hair and dust on shelves and in drawers. The shower head was filthy and the shower floor has wet bits of dust and hair. We also found a sticky roller thing that housekeeping but use to clean that was filthy and left in our room. We asked for the room to be cleaned and it was better but the floor was still dirty and the shower was still full of other peoples hair. From the image they portray to what you receive is very different. The hotel needs some TLC, a bit of a make over and a damn good clean.
