Our recent stay at Þingholt by Center Hotels was absolutely fantastic — and honestly, you can’t beat the location, location, location! Situated right in the heart of Reykjavík, the hotel is perfectly placed for shopping, dining, and exploring the city’s top sights. If you’re joining guided tours, Bus Stop #6 is only a three-minute walk away, which made everything incredibly convenient.

The staff were super friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, always happy to help. Our room was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with a minibar and small fridge, which was a nice touch after long days of sightseeing. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the hotel’s happy hour at the bar — ring the bell for service.

There’s also a cozy spa and a small gym available for guests (exercise bikes and dumbbells). While the hotel doesn’t offer free parking, we found it very easy to park nearby. Free parking is available along the residential edges of the city center and at a free lot near the church, and with the Easy Park app, managing parking was simple. We had a car for the entire week and never had any issues.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend Þingholt by Center Hotels to anyone visiting Reykjavík. Comfortable, friendly, and perfectly located — it made our trip even more memorable.

I stayed for 13 days, room 305. I felt so much at home I didnt want to leave. Location, can't really beat it, the sushi across the street was to die for.
The staff were warm and welcoming, the hotel bar is a nice addition. As pricy as iceland can be, it was the best choice for me. Thanks to all the staff

Great spot, central to alot of amazing places in Reykjavik. Clean, comfortable, and friendly staff.
Perfect spot for walking and exploring the city.
Morning breakfast was full of yummy options, and easy on the wallet. Allowing the ability to splurge guilt free on other Iclandic goodies (try the shark)
Great happy hour prices as well!!
Cannot wait to stay here again on our next adventure.

Really good location, near the city centre area and the service is awesome. Super friendly service staff and bar tender. Hotel looks great and the rooms are clean.

Just take note some of their rooms at the top floor has the constraints of the roof where the ceiling is slanted, you may knock your head like i did. And the lighting can be quite dim. Other than that, great room great hotel great place.

I’ve been wanting to write this since returning home, and I’m so glad I took the time to reflect on what was truly an incredible stay. To make this easy to follow, I’ve broken my review into sections.

Location
The location was perfect. Although our room didn’t have much of a view, this didn’t matter in November when daylight was limited. The hotel sits on a quiet side street just a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral and the main streets. Being slightly tucked away was actually a huge advantage, despite our room facing the road, we didn’t hear any traffic or street noise at all.

Everything in Reykjavik city centre was easily walkable, and there were plenty of bars and restaurants just steps from the hotel.

Hotel & Rooms
The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, friendly welcome from the reception team. The lobby is modern and inviting, with water features, a cosy seating area, and a fire, the perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine after a day of exploring.

We stayed in a deluxe double and were genuinely surprised by how spacious it was. The room had a large bathroom, seating area, mini fridge (stocked with items for purchase), iron and ironing board, safe, and both air conditioning and heating. There was plenty of storage for luggage, coats, and boots, ideal for Iceland in winter.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and we slept wonderfully throughout our stay. The bathroom was also generously sized, with a large walk in shower, bathrobes, hairdryer, and toiletries you’d expect from a 4 star hotel. The heated flooring was a standout feature, especially on cold days.

Housekeeping visited daily and always did an exceptional job. Towels were replaced, the mini fridge restocked, and the bed made beautifully (far better than our attempts!). Returning to a spotless, welcoming room after exploring was always a highlight.

Bar & Dining
At check in we received vouchers for 50% off a drink, plus an additional complimentary drink to celebrate our wedding anniversary, a lovely touch.

We visited the bar to use the vouchers and enjoyed a glass of wine while chatting with other guests and staff. We also took drinks to the reception area, where there are books and games available if you want to relax indoors.

For a small hotel bar, the selection was impressive, offering a wide range of wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails. The bar sits beside the dining room, which we used only for breakfast.

Spa
We were also given vouchers for the hotel spa. Although our itinerary was packed and we didn’t have time to use it, we did take a look around. It had everything you’d expect, a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms. It looked like the perfect place to unwind after a long day, and we were genuinely disappointed not to fit it in.

Staff
This is the part I really want to emphasise.
I’ve worked in the travel industry for 15 years, specialising in luxury travel, and I can confidently say the staff here are some of the best I’ve ever encountered. They remembered our names, our plans for the day, and made us feel like we were the only guests in the hotel.

The reception team were outstanding, especially Bora, who went above and beyond from check in to check out. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine interest in our stay are a big reason I would return to this hotel on my next visit to Iceland.

Every staff member is a credit to the hotel. Even while we were enjoying a glass of wine, we could see how attentively and sincerely they interacted with other guests. Their passion for hospitality truly shows.

If only all hotels operated this way.

Thank you for the most incredible and memorable stay during our 10 year anniversary. This certainly won’t be our last visit, we can’t wait to return.

Great hotel in perfect location. Easy access to everything. Hotel spotless, very unique and comfortable. Staff were amazingingly helpful.
Not the best variety of breakfast but great quality of what was offered.

The staff seemed okay. The room was crowded and hard to move around for me. I banged my head on the tv multiple times as it stuck out from the wall at an odd angle. The most worrisome thing is that the bathtub had black mold around the edges. I was concerned about that. The room I had was a nice corner room with a good view but it was close to housekeeping so I heard noises early in the morning (and I am hard of hearing). I was surprised they didn't offer free water bottles to guest like other hotels often do. I was underwhelmed by the hotel.
07.01.2026 Nikolina
Really great location and amazing staff. Rooms were clean and spacious although lacking a bit of detail (eg lights not working). Mattress and pillows were comfortable. No double quilt, strange.

Breakfast was limited but good, it would good if it included vegan sausages and bacon.

Spa is truly disappointing and we paid extra for it, was not worth it at all - just a warm shallow pool (aka hot tub) no bubbles, no depth, pretty pointless and a sauna room. That's it.

My friends and I touring Iceland came here on a Sat night around 9pm. It was still early enough where they had an acoustic guitarist singing cover songs. It wasn't that busy and had available seating at the time. It was nice and chill and we got to sing along too! However sometime later they started taking away the tables and chairs and more and more and MORE people started pouring in! Young crowd too. We got super lucky bc a group of people left their booth table which ended up being right by the DJ. At this point the it was a packed club (which I didn't expect at all lol). As with any packed club, it was very hard to get drinks and to move anywhere in the bar, and there was a long line for the bathroom to which my friends also added that 2 chicks got in a fight (sounds kinda interesting actually). They played American Music the rest of the night and even with the negative aspects of busy clubs, I still had a grand time, but of course alcohol helps lol.

Top quality sound system, my wife and I heard the music (and revellers) extremely clearly in my hotel over 50 metres away and all night long to boot! The set was top notch with good flow and a good selection of various upbeat music, the sound system made it so clear I could "shazam" over 80% of the DJ's set!
What an experience!
11/10 would definitely not sleep again!

Don't even think of going there. The worst club I have ever been to. 200 people cramped in a place where it can hold maximum 50 People spilling beer all over the place, drunk fightings, I can go on and on.

Staff were bullies and assholes!
Bought drinks in the sports bar which was quite still at the time, and then got threatened with a beating by the bouncers if I didn't move over to the much louder club next door. That wasn't the place or atmosphere I signed up for. Stay clear!
31.12.2017 Chelsea
Went there during a non rush period (around 1430) and left after 30 minutes...our drink order hadn’t even been taken. My mom went up to the bar to try to place an order there and she said she’d send someone right over. We waited about 10 more minutes, during which the server blatantly ignored us, before we left. We got our fish and chips down the street at Drunken Rabbit— much better experience!
23.11.2017 Chris
Visited during dinner hours thirsty and hungry. Very disappointed with lacklustre service and staff that didn't seem terribly interested in being there. Food was disappointing. Only saving grace was that beer was cold. Would not recommend.
23.10.2017 Garry
Good. Enjoyed food with decent portions. Costs more than you would expect but this is iceland so not bad for here.
07.08.2017 Dennis
I thought the good was just OK. Fish and Chips is probably the best.
Service is slow and not very attentive. Not very aware of customer's needs, and sometimes feel like being ignored.
Feels pricy for the food served.

Maybe because this is a PUB, not a restaurant.

Overall, its still not a bad place to come to. But there are other places in the area that you can pay a little more to get much better food.
