stayed at this hotel while visiting Iceland from Canada, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the moment I arrived, everything was seamless, welcoming, and thoughtfully done. The staff were incredibly kind and professional, always happy to help and genuinely invested in making my stay comfortable.
Every detail felt intentional, from the comfort of the bed to the overall atmosphere of the space.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. It truly felt like a home away from home, and it played a big role in making my Iceland trip so great. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland, whether it’s your first time or not.

The receptionist was quite rude when I checked in. Also, the staff (reception/ kitchen) don’t communicate well. I had an experience when the receptionist said I have to pay my breakfast to the breakfast room. Then, the staff there frowned at me and looking confused. It’s embarrassing. I won’t book Hotel Island again. I think the cheap hotels near the city center maybe better suited.

Hi, we stayed for 3 nights and the experience was overall good. The city centre is half an hour walking from the hotel but the reception team helped us to find the local transportation routes and taxi services.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are ever travelling to Reykjavík, and here’s why.

Arrival:
When you arrive, you are welcomed into a warm and quiet atmosphere. The reception desk is on the left, with comfortable sofas and seating directly in front of you. The reception staff are very helpful and assisted us with directions to get into downtown Reykjavík. If you have a lot of luggage or prefer not to use the stairs, this is not a problem as there are two accessible lifts that take you directly to your floor.

Rooms:
Upon entering the room, you are greeted with comfortable, tidy beds (depending on how many guests are staying) and a neatly kept bathroom with all the essentials, including:

A shower

Plenty of towels

Toilet paper

Soaps

Next to the bed is a bedside table with a convenient iPhone charging lamp, which is very easy to use — you simply place your phone against the X-shaped holder. There is also a QR code in the room allowing you to order food and drinks directly to your room with quick service.

Around four metres in front of the beds, there is a tray with tea, coffee, sugar, and similar items, along with a mini fridge. A mirror is placed near the bed, although I felt it could have been cleaned a little better. Depending on the room size, there is also a table and chair, which is ideal for reading or relaxing. A modern, high-tech telephone is also provided in the room.

Service:
The breakfast area offers a paid buffet breakfast in the mornings, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The bar also has a happy hour, which I believe runs from 5pm to 6pm, offering both drinks and food.

Location:
The hotel is located on the edge of Reykjavík and offers beautiful, photo-worthy views of the surrounding mountains. The area is peaceful and quiet, making it a very relaxing place to stay.

Room is big and spacious. But facilities abit dated. Overall it’s quite good comfort

The staff at this hotel go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. If you are lucky enough to have Emily on the front desk you will truly be in great hands. She helped us enormously and her recommendations were spot on. Thank you

Why is it SO HOT in here? My goodness, it is unbearable! They clearly know it’s hot in here because we arrived with the window open, not cracked, but open! Yet it is so hot!! Extremely uncomfortable!
Not the best hotel. Rooms were decent, not the cleanest, the bathroom shower had 2 Hairs on them, clearly they did not clean it. Breakfast was sad. I also did not appreciate the staff hovering over everyone, eagle watching while we ate.
Our tour company, Arctic Adventures, placed us here. I would not recommend.

We spent the night there on the day of our wedding - I couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience. David and the team, especially Emily took excellent care of us and made us feel super special. The rooms are great quality, good beds, the staff is lovely and breakfast is also very good. It was quiet and we slept super well. My family stayed in various types rooms and everyone was happy with their experience. Highly recommend!!!

For those who consider living in this hotel please do check your bank statement. I found they charged me a transaction a week after my check out. I did send an email to ask why but there is no reply. Be careful.

Great location and staff are so nice and helpful. Room is comfortable and great place to capture all the fireworks during the new year. :) 10/10 would stay again

Delicious sushi, the service was super friendly and it didn't take very long to resive our order. Would definitely come again!

I really like sushi and was looking forward to seeing what sushi in Iceland tastes like. Unfortunately this place was very slow in serving, badly undercooked the tofu in the miso soup, and provided old and weak tasting ginger and wasabi with the sushi. 2 stars because at least the fish was good as it tends to be in Iceland.
28.05.2017 Ingolfur
This place is a quiet gem tucked away between office spaces and hotels.
The sushi is exquisite and worth waiting for, just make sure you aren't in a rush when you come here.

We waited for a half an hour to only get notified that hour they lost the receipt and were starting to make the food
20.09.2017 Easy
Most of their food tastes like cardboard with Fairy (if you ask them nicely, maybe they will even get the colour right), vegetables from a skip and rice several days old.
15.09.2017 Mimi
Awhile back, I read that this was a good restaurant... the ready food doesn't look good, but the made fresh to order isn't bad. Perhaps not that Chinese, but there aren't that many options in town, unfortunately.
25.06.2017 Margret
Recommend the fish orly with rice and ask for curry sauce rather than sweet and sour.

Fast Chinese food and very tasty but way overpriced
