Description

Central Guesthouse Reykjavík is a modest two-star accommodation located in the heart of Reykjavik. The guesthouse offers a variety of room types including Economy Double, Standard Triple, Quadruple, Double rooms, and Studios. Guests will find non-smoking rooms equipped with comfortable beds and neat decor, often praised for their cleanliness and brightness. The property features communal facilities such as a large shared kitchen/dining area, a shared lounge with TV, a garden, terrace, and WiFi throughout. Underfloor heating adds comfort, especially in the bathrooms. The building is older and some bathrooms and kitchen appliances show signs of age, but the price point reflects this. Pets are allowed here, and family rooms are available. Self-check-in is via code, with no staffed front desk, which has caused some communication issues during late hours. The guesthouse is suitable for travelers who appreciate a central location and a social atmosphere, akin to hostel-style lodging, with shared bathrooms on each floor.

Location

The guesthouse is located on Laufásvegur in Reykjavik's Midborg district, placing you within easy walking distance of the National Gallery of Iceland, just 191 meters away. It sits approximately 2 kilometers from Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV). The beachfront at Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach is 2.74 kilometers from the property. Nearby dining options include Restaurant Hressó at 168 meters, Restaurant B5 at 214 meters, and Hlöllabátar 341 meters away. Bus stop No. 2 - Tjornin is just steps from the guesthouse, providing easy access to excursion buses around the area.

Tips

  • Expect to use a self-check-in system with code access, so plan your arrival accordingly to avoid being locked out at night.
  • Bring earplugs or request rooms away from the street to mitigate street noise, as soundproofing is limited.
  • Use the shared kitchen for meal preparation, but be prepared for older appliances and occasional power issues.

This is a gorgeous little guesthouse in easy walking distance to all the major attractions and sites in Reykjavik. The house is quiet, with a sleek bathroom, neat bedrooms, underfloor heating, and a spacious kitchen/living area. There is a step from the road down to the front door and two biggish steps from the door down to the floor itself but they are not hard to manage (even with a buggy).

Location was good but stay was okay
Location of guest house is in heart of city. Everything is nearby. Guesthouse was clean and as per description but there is no front desk and no one answer your call from night 9 pm to morning 10 pm even if you get into emergency or get stuck outside of guest house. There were couple of false advertisement like free parking and laundry. They didn’t specify that Free parking is available on street for a certain period and laundry is paid for around $25. I wish they have better communication way during night as tourist will come from another country or another city . They look forward for some assistance if they need it. I called them multiple times during for some minor assistance but no one answered until 10:30 am next morning .

It was very well set up with a full and large kitchen / dining room for guests to prepare their own food. It was more like a hostel than a hotel.
One shared bathroom per floor worked fairly well. Shame there was not a separate toilet tho.
Room was neat snd well decorated bed and bedding was amazingly comfortable .
Narrow stairs up to bedrooms and down to kitchen were challenging for a 70 plus body .
My early checkin was accommodated at no extra charge

Centrally located, easy to walk to the centre of town. Despite this, it is remarkably quiet. Clean. Room was very clean and bright. This hostel is located in an older building - the rooms were great, the kitchen and bathrooms need some updating. The bathrooms were a little musty and toilets were coming to the end of their life. Kitchen microwave is old and slow.

Oveall good place for our family of 4 with good beds and ammenities. Sound proofing wasnt great as street noise was quite loud. When i tried to use the stovetop the power went out due to a vlown breaker, forcing me to use the shared kitchen vs the private one in our suite (after i found the breaker box and reset it), so that was inconvenient.

We came in late therefore it was easy to receive code for door and easy check in instructions.

Very comfortable beds! Thank you!!

The host was extremely rude and unhelpful. We had a group of 7 people for the first night and only 2 people for the second night, so we booked 2 rooms for 4 people each for the first night and one room with 4 beds for the 2nd night even though we only needed 2. I did this so we could leave our bags in the room and have the whole day free to explore. All the rooms were booked within the same hour and I sent a message to the host asking to have the same room for the second night even though we didn't need that many beds. It took him 3 weeks to reply, but he said he would manage it. You don't find out which room you are in until you arrive, so when we got in and saw which rooms we had for the first night I wrote to ask which one we had for the 2nd night. Over an hour later I got a response that we did not have the same room but were going to have to change rooms (check-out is by 11am, check-in is after 2pm). The guy who brought us our towels called the owner so I could talk to him, but he refused to listen, constantly interrupted me and proceeded to throw insults at me! So the next morning we had to pack our bags up and wait in the room to find out where to move our stuff. Eventually we wandered around the building and found a cleaner who was able to figure out which room we were being moved to. (There is no front desk) She cleaned it first and let us in. I wrote to tell the owner that we were in the room and he replied later that day. We lost 1/2 day and never got an apology.

No towels as housekeeping error but mitigated with a little delay. Also confusion over some of our group staying an extra night and incorrect room reserved with poor communication from management despite reservations made 6 months in advance. Otherwise good price for studio apartments in city. Shared bathroom in main area very smelly by morning.

We had a family room with en suite bath and a kitchenette, and it was fine for our short stay in Reykjavik. It really is central too all of the attractions in the town; we walked in all directions and the property always seemed to be only a few streets away. It is also steps from Bus Stop No. 2 - Tjornin, which is a pick-up point for excursion busses. The kitchenette had cooking facilities, a small refrigerator, a water kettle, and the like. It was a pleasant place to stay.

Very nice hotel, but I don't know the key to access the hotel.

Staff were bullies and assholes!
Bought drinks in the sports bar which was quite still at the time, and then got threatened with a beating by the bouncers if I didn't move over to the much louder club next door. That wasn't the place or atmosphere I signed up for. Stay clear!

Went there during a non rush period (around 1430) and left after 30 minutes...our drink order hadn’t even been taken. My mom went up to the bar to try to place an order there and she said she’d send someone right over. We waited about 10 more minutes, during which the server blatantly ignored us, before we left. We got our fish and chips down the street at Drunken Rabbit— much better experience!

Visited during dinner hours thirsty and hungry. Very disappointed with lacklustre service and staff that didn't seem terribly interested in being there. Food was disappointing. Only saving grace was that beer was cold. Would not recommend.

Good. Enjoyed food with decent portions. Costs more than you would expect but this is iceland so not bad for here.
07.08.2017 Dennis
I thought the good was just OK. Fish and Chips is probably the best.
Service is slow and not very attentive. Not very aware of customer's needs, and sometimes feel like being ignored.
Feels pricy for the food served.

Maybe because this is a PUB, not a restaurant.

Overall, its still not a bad place to come to. But there are other places in the area that you can pay a little more to get much better food.

My friends and I touring Iceland came here on a Sat night around 9pm. It was still early enough where they had an acoustic guitarist singing cover songs. It wasn't that busy and had available seating at the time. It was nice and chill and we got to sing along too! However sometime later they started taking away the tables and chairs and more and more and MORE people started pouring in! Young crowd too. We got super lucky bc a group of people left their booth table which ended up being right by the DJ. At this point the it was a packed club (which I didn't expect at all lol). As with any packed club, it was very hard to get drinks and to move anywhere in the bar, and there was a long line for the bathroom to which my friends also added that 2 chicks got in a fight (sounds kinda interesting actually). They played American Music the rest of the night and even with the negative aspects of busy clubs, I still had a grand time, but of course alcohol helps lol.

Top quality sound system, my wife and I heard the music (and revellers) extremely clearly in my hotel over 50 metres away and all night long to boot! The set was top notch with good flow and a good selection of various upbeat music, the sound system made it so clear I could "shazam" over 80% of the DJ's set!
What an experience!
11/10 would definitely not sleep again!

Don't even think of going there. The worst club I have ever been to. 200 people cramped in a place where it can hold maximum 50 People spilling beer all over the place, drunk fightings, I can go on and on.
