We enjoyed your stay at Guesthouse Galtafell. The parking available is free street parking, we went in late February 2026 and had no issue with finding a park close by. Rooms were quiet and safe. Good heating and a large bathroom. On our first night we had issues with the shower water not draining, we emailed and they had it fixed within hours. Although this wasn't communicated to us which was disappointing. We bumped into the cleaner who told us that it had been fixed. Communication could have been better, but otherwise really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the hospitality.

Very nice guesthouse situated in a quiet area, yet close to central city. Owners contacted us before arrival to instruct about access to our room. When leaving, my daughter forgot her gloves and hat in the room. The owner contacted us and arranged sending the items to Sweden. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Guesthouse Galtafell. It was very clean with great amenities and a spacious bathroom. The hosts are also very kindhearted and let us keep our luggage there post check out while we went on a day trip. Thorey and her husband go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and special.

This suited us perfectly for a three night stay. The building looks great from the outside. The room was a little quirky but clean and functional. Beds were comfortable and if you like a cheeky afternoon nap (like me) the sofa is also comfortable. Easy to check in and out. No hassle or fuss.

Our family stayed in a 3-bed apartment and it was absolutely perfect for us. Could not have asked for better setup for our group. The room and bathrooms were very clean, high ceilings, windows that could be opened to let crisp air in, quiet residential neighborhood, and within walking distance to downtown. We had a kitchenette which is very helpful when trying to save some money by not eating every meal out.

Excellent place for a family to stay in Reykjavik! Quirky and fun, owners are very friendly and helpful (we were able to check in early which we very much appreciated) as are their dog and cat :). The location is great as a home base in Reykjavik because it's a quiet street but very short walk to whatever you want to see or visit. As someone from a city in the US, the idea of 'free street parking' strikes fear into my heart because that's usually code for 'good luck, see if you can find any' but we had zero issues finding parking any of the days we were there. Would definitely stay here again: cozy rooms, lovely showers and kitchenette, everything we needed.

A really great place to stay whilst staying in Iceland! The staff members were super helpful and attentive, even Fram the dog and JellyBelly the cat! The room was perfect for two of us, the beds were super comfy and room had everything we needed for our 5 nights away! Thank you for a great stay!🌌

Very nice and clean room. Contactless check-in went well and was easy. Comfortable bed and bathroom. The floor in the bathroom was heated and there was a heated towel rack, which was nice. The room was small with very little space beside the bed. There was a radiator next to the bed. I turned it off in the middle of the night as it was getting too hot. In the morning the room was like a sauna, it was so hot. I guess it was coming from the heated bathroom floor? We had to open the window and door to get some fresh air. The shower is nice, but it sprays water everywhere on the floor and toilet, as the tiny wall between the shower and toilet is not sufficient. The tub is quite big to step into. It would’ve been nice to have a handrail, as I was afraid to slip and fall in the slippery tub. WiFi was extremely fast (150+ mbps) and downtown is just a short walk away. Parking was a bit difficult. We had to circle the block a couple of times and ended up parking on the street behind. All and all we loved our stay and highly recommend this place to stay on your visit to Reykjavik.

We stayed here on two separate dates. The owner was very kind and helpful. On the first stay we've got a bigger room that we've booked which was great. The rooms are clean. The small room was too small, but i guess it's a standard in Reykjavik.

We were only one night in the guesthouse. We slept in the “garage”, a room that is not proposed on the website. Very small room. Breakfast (one fruit, one yoghurt and one pre-packed sandwich) was in the fridge for the next day. We didn’t see anyone at arrival / departure. The guesthouse is ideally located (even if you are very close to the airport and hear the planes taking off and landing.

We asked a local Icelander where the best place to try puffin and Whale was and we were not disappointed. Excellent service and beautiful food. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to have a true Icelandic experience.

Good service, friendly staffs, delicious food and good ambiance, what more can you ask for? Note that the shop does look small, not sure about upstairs seating though. Might need to book in advance if you have larger groups or want to be seated during peak hours.

Great place. Was recommended by a number of locals to us and did not dissapoint.
My only mistake was trying the shark for the first time without asking how they prepare it first. Iy is fermented and has a very sharp taste and smell. Did not enjoy that dish.
As for the rest - was absolutely delicious. The smoked puffin had very unique taste and was the highlight of the dinner.
I ordered whale pepper steak, enjoyed it greatly. We also had halibut amd langoustines which were prepared immaculately!
Did not leave room for dessert :(

Outstanding restaurant! Went here for a Thanksgiving meal far from home. Did not disappoint. We had the herring appetizer which my mother and husband loved (I am not a fan of herring so I skipped). For main courses we had lamb filet, halibut with langostine and wild sea bird (Puffin) in a wine reduction. Dessert was homemade vanilla ice cream with chocolate and caramel sauce. Rekya vodka and white wine. Skipped the coffee. Currently delirious. Restaurant staff was lovely and the space was quite pretty.

I'd give it 5 stars but the salty cod was very salty. Very, very salty. We spent $50USD for salt and we were lucky enough to get fish with it. Although the puffin, potato soup, and horse steak was good.

Different kind of food if you are tired of the same old same old stuff in the city. Quick service and price is OK for the amount of food you get. Everything seems expensive in the city so this is a nice change of pace, right next to bus shuttle to airport as well.
