Description

Reykjavik Rainbow Guest House is a 3-star accommodation situated in the Midborg district of Reykjavik, offering a range of room types including standard singles, doubles, family rooms, and apartments with balconies. The guest house is managed by a private host and features non-smoking rooms, heating, a lift, free parking, and WiFi access. Guests have access to a shared kitchen fully equipped with kitchenware, allowing for self-catering. Despite some reports of small rooms and older furniture, the property is generally clean and orderly with a rating of 7.6/10. The guest house does not provide breakfast, and pets are not allowed. Practical features include private check-in/out and family rooms. The building provides a cozy, local atmosphere close to many city attractions. Some guests noted noise issues due to thin walls and proximity to busy streets, so rooms on upper floors may offer a quieter stay.

Location

The guest house is located at Amtmannsstígur 5a in Reykjavik's city center (Midborg). It is just 259 meters from The Icelandic Phallological Museum and within walking distance to Harpa Concert Hall and the lively Laugavegur shopping street. The nearest beach, Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach, is about 2.77 kilometers away. The Reykjavik Domestic Airport (RKV) lies 2 kilometers from the property, making transfers convenient. Nearby dining options include Restaurant B5 (88 m) and Restaurant Hressó (177 m), plus the Cafe Te & Kaffi at 203 meters. A Bonus supermarket is also close by for self-catering needs. This location places you right in the heart of Reykjavik with easy access to cultural and entertainment venues.

  • Bring ear plugs just in case, as some guests report disrupted sleep.
  • Utilize the fully equipped shared kitchen to prepare meals, especially since breakfast is not offered.
  • Also, keep in mind that pets are not allowed despite what services suggest.

Was booked last minute due to original accommodation cancellation the day before arrival. Nice place, great location but very poor nights sleep due to poor sound proofing both inside and out. Ear plugs were provided but even with these sleep was broken from late night check ins and late night conversations from people walking by. I suspect the upper floor rooms would be better. Has a usable kitchen/dinning area, and a power loss during the night was quickly solved by the host.

Avoid this place. Our room wasn't clean and located near a park where drunks and crackheads hang out at night

Not as long as I thought it would be, beautiful and bright, shops on either side, lovely little gift shops, places to eat and get a coffee, very pretty and unique, keep walking past the colours and it leads you right to the hallgrimsta

Very honest management. Generally Clean , but small rooms. No breakfast or morning coffee/tea. Older furniture. Paper thin walls. Even with great next door neighbors, sleep interrupted by entry and exit of rooms. Shared bathrooms, so waiting possible. Hard sofa/bed. Sleep difficult. Would recommend avoiding bedroom #4 For that reason.

Is tidy and clean... kitchen is full of kitchenware which provide for us to cook ourself. Nice loc, close with Laugavegur, also able to walk to Harpa concert hall. Near with Bonus supermarket also. Just don’t have free carpark.

We had a great experience staying at Rainbow Guesthouse. The house is very clean and orderly. The location is absolutely perfect! It is in the heart of the city and only minutes walk from many of the fun things to do. I would highly recommend it and will definitely be staying here again when we return!

My friends and I touring Iceland came here on a Sat night around 9pm. It was still early enough where they had an acoustic guitarist singing cover songs. It wasn't that busy and had available seating at the time. It was nice and chill and we got to sing along too! However sometime later they started taking away the tables and chairs and more and more and MORE people started pouring in! Young crowd too. We got super lucky bc a group of people left their booth table which ended up being right by the DJ. At this point the it was a packed club (which I didn't expect at all lol). As with any packed club, it was very hard to get drinks and to move anywhere in the bar, and there was a long line for the bathroom to which my friends also added that 2 chicks got in a fight (sounds kinda interesting actually). They played American Music the rest of the night and even with the negative aspects of busy clubs, I still had a grand time, but of course alcohol helps lol.

Top quality sound system, my wife and I heard the music (and revellers) extremely clearly in my hotel over 50 metres away and all night long to boot! The set was top notch with good flow and a good selection of various upbeat music, the sound system made it so clear I could "shazam" over 80% of the DJ's set!
What an experience!
11/10 would definitely not sleep again!

Don't even think of going there. The worst club I have ever been to. 200 people cramped in a place where it can hold maximum 50 People spilling beer all over the place, drunk fightings, I can go on and on.

Staff were bullies and assholes!
Bought drinks in the sports bar which was quite still at the time, and then got threatened with a beating by the bouncers if I didn't move over to the much louder club next door. That wasn't the place or atmosphere I signed up for. Stay clear!

Went there during a non rush period (around 1430) and left after 30 minutes...our drink order hadn’t even been taken. My mom went up to the bar to try to place an order there and she said she’d send someone right over. We waited about 10 more minutes, during which the server blatantly ignored us, before we left. We got our fish and chips down the street at Drunken Rabbit— much better experience!

Visited during dinner hours thirsty and hungry. Very disappointed with lacklustre service and staff that didn't seem terribly interested in being there. Food was disappointing. Only saving grace was that beer was cold. Would not recommend.

Good. Enjoyed food with decent portions. Costs more than you would expect but this is iceland so not bad for here.
07.08.2017 Dennis
I thought the good was just OK. Fish and Chips is probably the best.
Service is slow and not very attentive. Not very aware of customer's needs, and sometimes feel like being ignored.
Feels pricy for the food served.

Maybe because this is a PUB, not a restaurant.

Overall, its still not a bad place to come to. But there are other places in the area that you can pay a little more to get much better food.
