Reviews
More or less disappointing and it felt like being stuffed away: no storage space, hard bed and bad pillows … room price in this case felt overpriced. Spa /wellness and pool should be included. Also would like to add that it is not of this time that guests we have to pay additionally for beach beds… this should definitely be included in the extensive price! Tip: 1 water bottle for free seems standard practice nowadays in other luxury hotels, maybe you adjust this for the future.
Sleeping in this hotel is impossible though, the window shutters on the outside of the room slam open and shut all night due to the wind, had to get up and prop a chair against it but that didn't fix much since all the neighboring window shutters were doing it too.
This is besides the creaky old wood in the rooms, and all the up-sell services pushed in your face for this supposedly high-class restaurants (omlettes at the paid breakfast cost extra??)
All in all, I wouldn't recommend staying here.
I want to clarify that I never said you robbed us or charged us incorrectly for something we didn’t have. What I said was that charging extra for basic items such as juice and eggs, when the room rate is OVER €1,000 per night, feels nothing short of robbery. By that I mean it comes across as excessive, not that you acted dishonestly.
Regarding the water, nobody offered us any during our stay beyond the first day. So if you’ve been told otherwise, you may be confusing us with another room. We certainly would never have refused it.
To put this into perspective, we stayed at a three-star hotel in Parma on our way to Venice to have a rest. That hotel not only replenished water daily in the rooms but also had water and juice stations on every floor by the lifts for all guests. The two nights there cost €500 in total. When a three-star hotel provides this level of service, it raises questions about why a four-star hotel charging over €1,000 per night cannot include water, juice, or eggs without an additional fee. I did bring what I believed to be wrong to staffs attention but was told thats just the way we do things here. So what else did you want me to do???
I believe this is why you see frequent complaints in your reviews about breakfast. The room rate reflects a true five-star standard even thiugh you are Four-Star, but the policies on basic inclusions do not. I hope you will reconsider, as these details can make a big difference in guest satisfaction.
This is just some honest feedback from 2 people who travel often & like the finer things in life. Of course we are not snobs as you can see we stayed in a 3 star hotel in Parma as there was no other option.
Obviously you dont need to take on my feedback on board at all but im definitely coming from a good place & hopefully you can see where im coming from. Alot of places in italy suffered this year as they had being doing things like this over the last few years and now people have stopped going. Sometimes its not about making a quick dollar, well it shouldn't be anyway. You should be aiming to have people return again & again. We stay in the same hotel in sorrento, in Puglia & milan every year for this reason no matter the prices. Its the small things that count. Like coffee & water. Wish I had come over to your table that day and we could have had a face to face conversation instead.
Regards
Debora
My wife and I recently stayed at the Hotel Continental in Santa Margherita Ligure and we had such a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel right at home. Everyone we encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely eager to help, which really set the tone for the entire stay.
The hotel itself is beautiful with an area of the hotel being brand new within the last few years. Our room was comfortable, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. Waking up to the view of the sea and the perfectly kept grounds was such a treat, it really added to the charm of being in this part of Italy. The whole property has a relaxing, welcoming atmosphere, making it a truly enjoyable experience.
Breakfast every morning was a treat and dining was excellent. The service throughout was consistently top-notch. What we loved most, though, was how seamless the entire experience felt. It wasn’t just about a nice room or good food. It was the combination of everything working together to create a memorable stay.
Santa Margherita Ligure is already a special place, but staying at the Hotel Continental made it even better. we would absolutely recommend it to anyone planning a visit here.
I highly recommend the on premise dinner at 7:30 every dish was a masterpiece. From scallops to steak to ravioli ever was top notch and my family was very impressed.
Next time we are in the are we are definitely staying here.
Btw their a/c is the best in Italy!!!
And most of all, the people here are wonderful and the service is the best I have ever received! It was a rainy week and rather than leave early, I opted to stay because I didn't want to leave their warmth, cute sense of humor, and charming care.
Stay here and have the best vacation imagineable in the beautiful Santa Margherita Ligure. 💜
