Residenza Il Giglio in Rome

Do not recommend staying here. I hardly recognised the room from the pictures on the site. It was dingy and scruffy with scuffed walls and no view. We spent hardly any time in the room aside from to sleep or shower, then when we left, they charged us an extra £100 for a 'plumber' that was needed to remove stuff from the sink? We turned the tap on about 3 times and used it to brush our teeth! And they didn't even contact us to explain - we had to seek out and appeal this information. No evidence or explanation.
Absolute scam. Do not book this accomodation.

VERY BAD:
There was a completely lack of transparency with the check in. There is an extra charge for late check in (i.e., after 20:00 h) that goes up to 70 €. However, this extra charge is not indicated in the conditions in Booking, unlike many other establishments in Rome that do not have 24 h reception do. In addition, this amount has to be paid in cash. It is OK to charge extra for late check in, but, this should be stated in the conditions from the beginning (as most of the other establishments do), not afterwards, in an e-mail.

The worst part is that they try to present this extra charge as a favor with sentences like:

- "but we can, exceptionally for you, wait you after the reception closing time"

- "Many other bed and breakfast or guest house do not accept at all guest after reception closing time so we hope you appreciate our service"

-"extra amount not for us but for the person who will wait for you"

In many other countries (e.g., Norway, Sweden, Lithuania), we have even found "Key Safe Boxes" to enable 24 h check in. Overall, the place has been good, but because of this "trick" that they do to "fish" more guests (once booked, you cannot cancel), we will not come back to this place.

GOOD:
The location is great, right in the middle of Rome, the room was clean and the breakfast at "I dolci di Nonna Vincenza" was very good. The girl that attended us was very nice.
