Gregorio VII Luxury Suites in Rome

This is not even close to a luxury suite.
The building is so old, the elevator doesn’t work and it’s in an apartment building. Our room was close to the door so you could hear everything. Way too expensive for the real thing. We had to get out.

Well what can I say? The first shock came when the taxi dropped us off in front of some kind of fruit and vegetable store on a busy road. The taxi driver was kind enough to show us a gated and locked enterance into some kind of unlit dungeon. Luckily somebody was on their way out and we were able to tailgate entry into the complex. Inside here there was no concierge, it looked like a block of flats. Here we had no idea where we were supposed to be or who we were supposed to meet. We were convinced we were in the wrong place. But outside the iron bars it was clearly noted: "Gregorio VII Luxury Suites" After rummaging through our reservations and trying to find another human soul we conceded and decided to call the person. The place was upstairs on the first floor, through a rickety 18th Century claustraphobic lift. The enterance was as pictured in the first picture, it just looked like the enterance to just another block of flats. Inside it really was a block of flats, true they were converted and looked fairly decent for the area they were in, but it looked like a bed and breakfast, and certainly no luxury suite. Some of our fellow tenants were the dozens of ants crawling along the floor which made us reluctant to leave any of our things on the floor, lest they'd become the new domiciles of these arachnoids. We locked our stuff in the safe a couple of times as the instructions to operate the thing was not clear and wasn't even working. We went to the 'reception' area only to see that nobody else was in the building! We had to call the owner/manager and he raced his way back to open the safe, which we appreciated. Every day the maid, cleaned our rooms and towels and this is why we don't give 0 stars, because the bed was well made and towels replaced. Overall we were never goign to stay in the room for that long anyway, and the memory foam mattresses and pillows rested our weary bodies, but the ants and the rather stern "Check-out time finish!" spoiled the experience. When I saw this place online, it looked like a luxury hotel. But we saw just a converted bunch of flats.

So...me and my boyfriend are currently still here at the Gregorio vii lixury suites but I feel the need to publish what we think before actually finishing.
Good points-
- Room is clean and tidy
- Honeymoon suite has lovely jacuzzi (after having to rinse it out) which works
- The bed is comfortable

Bad points
- First night was in the 'superior suite' which at 10.30pm when we decided it was bedtime and to draw the curtain the whole curtain pole decided to kamakazy to the floor after a gentle tug, resulting to having to call out the receptionist on my mobile to come and fix it, he couldn't fix it so we had to have the shutters down and no curtains.

- It appears the advertised 'air conditioned rooms' is actually a lie and the air conditioning unit isn't controlled by yourself, you actually have to askt he receptionist to turn it on manually which is delightful when we went out (in the day at 30 degrees and turned the air con to what we assumed was on to come back to a nice cool room) and returned to walk into a sauna...which wasn't advertised in the facilities

. After paying €94 to upgrade for the next two nights in the 'honeymoon suite' which was the 'best suite' and it appeared the air conditioning worked (yay) yet we were mislead once again after waking up at 3am absolutely boiling and it appeared the air con had once again kamakazyed...like the curtain and was as we can only assume 'turned off'

- The man on reception, yes he was very sweet and helpful with regards to our curtain situation- he was not my favourite person when on night #2 when he decided to knock continually on the door at 11.30 PM to ask for the 'cash for city tax' which he had already been told we would give him in the morning once we had been to a cash point, we weren't planning to flee without giving him his €21 we just hadn't been to the cashpoint, I still feel that door knocking at that time of night on hotel guests is mildly uneccessary.

-Also, the 'hotel' isn't actually a hotel, it's apartments converted into suites- so just don't come along expecting a hotel with reception access etc.
