Hotel la Pietra Restaurant in Fosdinovo

Don't be fooled by the misleading photos on Google or booking:

This is the most horrible place in Italy.

The occupied room was filthy with hair and insects on the bed, the sheets contained old black marks similar to excrement marks. The bedding was uncomfortable with the springs digging into your back.

Breakfast consisted of the previous day's food, a few cakes, some yoghurt, two oranges and an apple for all guests in a dirty dining room with unwashed tables from the previous day's wedding...

And that's without counting the manager, an awful character who makes his guests cry when they complain about all this, and who refuses access to the swimming pool even though the hotel was reserved for that purpose. The hotel was hosting a wedding and had not warned guests that the pool was not accessible, even though it was 35 degrees that day.
A horrible experience, so stay away from this shabby hotel at 200 euros a night!!!!

Changed hotels after this stay
Difficult to find the entrance to the hotel. Very little signage. Once we did find it in they were nice while checking us in. Clearly a little outdated. Very strange location. Restaurant was not able to take us because we apparently needed a reservation to be made the night before. Which is fine however we had just arrived and there is no where else to go nearby. Aside from the pizza place across the street that they directed us towards after they told us we could not stay at the restaurant. Did have WiFi, parking and hot water. There was also a lot of noise. An event or party that happened well into the morning hours, which great for them, but the walls are apparently thin because we did not sleep that night because of this. Staircase to the room is narrow and spiral so beware if you have issues with stairs. We did end up leaving this reservation early and finding a place in a less secluded location. If you are looking for a style apartment style small room, this is for you. Very small town hotel. Nice staff, just not our style and not a great representation of the pictures on line. We regret not taking photos to represent what we saw but we did leave in a hurry for a new place to stay.

We recently stayed at the hotel La Pietra and wanted to share our experience, as we believe feedback is essential for improvement. Unfortunately, our visit fell short of expectations. While the hotel had potential, we felt that the staff's demeanor was somewhat unwelcoming, which made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Additionally, breakfast was not up to par. The lack of fresh bread and the limited selection of vacuum-packed pastries took away from the overall experience. The coffee, served from a machine, did not meet the quality one might hope for in a hotel setting. Another aspect we were disappointed with was the pool, which was unavailable for one day despite it being advertised as open to hotel guests. On our return we raised this matter through our booking agent and initially faced some resistance from the hotel. However, after providing photographic evidence, we were suitably compensated, which we appreciated. Lastly, I was surprised to see dogs belonging to guests allowed to relieve themselves in the garden area where the sun loungers were located. This raised some hygiene concerns that could easily be addressed with better policies. While there were few positive aspects to our stay, we hope that management takes this feedback into account, as it could greatly enhance the experience for future guests.

We stayed 1 night on our way to Elba. When we arrived it was a mystery how to get to the reception, as all gates were closed. The tags on the doorbell were so faded it was impossible to read. After randomly trying a bell a gate opened and we were 'greeted' by a person who did not speak a single word of english. We were shown to our room on the 1st floor while we booked a room on the ground floor. The lock of the door was very hard to open, even the owner took more than a minute to try and open the door. After this she left without any information about breakfast times, checkout etc. The same issue occured while trying to lock the door. The room was kinda spacious. The shower was moldy, and several places were just dirty with stains. Most of our towels were also dirty and in the end we shared the only clean towel we found. Bed was a 3/10. Breakfast was okay. 6/10. The pool was nice, but it was strange that the sunbeds were hidden behind a hedge. We got the feeling the 'hotel' was more of a side business next to the restaurant Elia (which was very nice). Location of the 'hotel' was great for a night stop when travelling further down into Italy as it is fairly close to the highway.
