Hotel Carignano in Lucca

This property has so many flaws that I can't explain how it received a 4-star rating. It's a large complex whose maintenance is done by patching up here and there, without any real improvement. Here are the main deficiencies noted: - cheaply renovated room and unrenovated windowless bathroom from the 1980s. No telephone in the room. Wi-Fi doesn't work. Noisy air conditioning that leaks into the middle of the room. - embarrassing breakfast service: tables set with clear plastic tarpaulins that really give the impression of a lack of cleanliness, staff are sparse and don't speak English, and finally, cups and dishes poorly washed with signs of previous use. - bar open from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. When we arrived at 5:00 PM, we asked if they could make us a toasted sandwich and were told that outside of these hours they couldn't. The pool is the best feature of the property, but even here, a lack of attention to detail is evident. There was a broken manhole cover on the lawn in front, posing a risk of children falling in, and a pergola with piles of dirty tarpaulins. Having traveled and seen other 4-star properties, I can say that this one is definitely below the standards expected by travelers, comparable to a 2-star, especially considering the asking price.
