Room : We got the room at the 2nd floor. Room cleanliness is a little poor, there're dust over the corners. Easily hit the roof pillar 😂 but it was just to experience the 100 years old house, so okay..
Self check in. They provide simply porridge with nothing else but salt for experience.
No water bottle provided.
Location: about 5-8min walking distance to Umekoji station which is quite convenient. Near to Kyoto Aquarium if you are interested. Surrounded by a few Michelin Guided's restaurant.

Please dont book for ryokan experience and traditional stay
We booked this for 4 days. We were not able to sleep properly. We could hear the sound from other rooms, people outside till 2 AM and again in the morning. Really bad experience and building and bathroom is bad and full of mould. We also booked this seeing the photos and to have traditional experience but please Dont. Better to book hotel at least for good rest. We stayed in other ryokan also but this way beyond bad experience.

The room was clean, but the house was old. There is only 1 restroom and 1 bathroom for 7 bedrooms. People need to wait for their turns to use them. The restroom and bathroom are not as good as other hotels that we used that were about the same prices.
I would expect more from this hotel with the price of $70/night.
The receptionist speaks English well which is a good sign.

Cool place!
There are several old Japanese houses - all belong to the hotel. There are cute lounge places, one has a library (with even some books in English).
I like the old interior and dim lighting. Also a little garden outside.
I think it’s great way to experience Japanese culture!

Once in a lifetime experience staying in Traditional Japanese house with affordable price? Go for it. But I would recommend do not book more than 1 night especially if you are light sleeper like me. You could literally hears everyone walking (since its 100 years old house)
Normally Japanese are very clean. But this hostel kind of moderate. You can smell the wooden - humid scent once you arrived. The house sandals and shoe racks are VERY DUSTY.
I Book for 3 nights but left after 2 nights because I need a good sleep without any interruption for my next trip.
Paid amenities. Shared bathroom. I skipped shower because the shared bathroom is not as clean as I expected :(
Anyhow. Good experience to enjoy authentic Japanese stays.
Also. Good location. Many bus stations around!

Very traditional stay, the hotel was both an experience and accommodation. Comfortable futon beds and good toilets. Quite and great facilities. Bikes were a great way to see the city.

It was cool of them to not require any check in and check out process, I booked with Agoda and they told me it's fine to just leave the cash in the room before leaving.
