The first minute I walked into U En, a girl checking out said "Have fun; this place is really special." Maybe that mismanaged my expectations, but I found the hostel to be solidly above average. Certainly it has a lot of charm and atmosphere. The restaurant downstairs is delicious (excellent coffee and cheesecake) and the people who work there are just wonderful souls. But "really special?" I dunno. The bathrooms are fine (of course spotlessly clean as they all are in Japan) and the bedrooms are nice enough, albeit a little crammed with people and a bit drafty (as one would expect in an historic house). The kitchen is decently equipped for being on the small side. I do take issue with the lounge. Why they close it at 22:00 and ask everyone to go downstairs to the empty restaurant to chill is beyond me. Maybe they're hoping to avoid noise up by the guest rooms, but Japan doesn't attract many boisterous backpackers. Even if it did, travelers universally loathe lounges that close, and a chilly restaurant downstairs with no truly comfortable seats is an insufficient substitute. All in all though, it's a nice place in a charming quarter of Osaka. I'd recommend it.

Traditional Japanese Accommodation
A traditional Japanese house over 100 years old. The staff is very attentive and speaks good English. The common areas are very pleasant and well-equipped for cooking.

Walking distance from osaka station like 15min. Clean and cute building. There were many places to eat around. Comfy bed.

incredible service and accommodating to us who arrived in Osaka after 10 pm. they were able to show us around in English and were extremely kind and hospitable. after I left, I even received an email if I had forgotten an item (the item was left before I arrived) but so kind for them to be so willing.

Good hostel: clean, friendly staff, ok location, and had everything you needed. We stayed 3 nights in a 4 bed female room and had no complaints. Because of Covid-19 you needed to check and write down your temperature everyday.

An amazing little guest house with the best curry in Osaka! Staff are super friendly and very helpful and Knowledgeable! Non-chan girl who works the coffee area makes a great cup off coffee in the AM! All the showers, bathrooms, and beds were super comfortable and clean. I really loved hanging out in the common room at the end of the night because of the cool slide doors with a bonsai tree on them. Some of the staff told me that the hotel is super old and their might be ghosts!! LOL love it! Prices are reasonable around 25-40 USD. Location is good and train line is easy to get to! If you need a rest and want somewhere cheap to stay this is it!

Everything was perfect. The hostel has a traditional Japanese style which is really welcoming. The beds are comfortable, all the facilities are clean and functional. There is a common room for guests and a cafe downstairs. The staff are super nice and helpful. The hostel is centrally located near Umeda station. It is easy to reach the sights of Osaka. Restaurants are close by for all meals. Would definitely recommend for your stay in Osaka.
