VIVA Sunrise in Alcudia

We have just got back from 9 nights at Viva Sunrise with our two children (5 and 1) having booked all inclusive and selection club and have a mixed review of our stay, particularly around the selection club which we do not feel was worth the almost £300 additional cost. Room This was the most disappointing part of our stay. We had booked a one bedroom apartment and were given room 538 on one of the selection club floors. The room itself was basic and could do with modernising and some maintenance, as could the corridors and outside of the hotel. There was a ceiling panel which had come out of place (see photo) and one of the sliding wardrobe doors completely broke off. The kitchenette area was fine but tiny and wouldn’t have left much room if we hadn’t been all inclusive. Cleaning was generally fine but there were a couple of days where the sheets weren’t changed, we were told that cleaning was done every day as part of the “selection club benefits” so I’m unsure what the norm is for the other rooms. I had also left out a packet of tablets and some clothing tape on the bedside which were thrown away by the cleaners. This was a corner room and as a result the balcony was tiny and cramped and came off the bedroom rather than the living area. This made the living area appear quite dull and left limited space for our family to spend time out there. We could see that other corner balconies spanned the width of the living and bedroom area so it’s a shame this one didn’t. The sides of our balcony were also stone rather than the glass of the other balconies in the hotel so we couldn’t see out of it, I’m not sure why it was designed this way as the other top floor and corner balconies were glass. This would have been less disappointing if it was consistent with the rest of the hotel but it felt like we’d been given a rubbish room. Had we not paid the extra for selection club we would have been on a different floor with a nicer balcony. Pools The pools are great fun for children and my 5yo loved the inflatable pillow and slides. The splash area was also great for my 1yo to toddle around in. People were putting towels down from around 7am for the front loungers and cabanas around the main pool but we didn’t have a problem getting them anywhere else. There was always activities going on around the pools for various ages during the day and the kids club allows you to drop them off between 11-2.30. With selection club you also get access to the Oasis pool on the upper level and it looked like there were always cabanas available up here. The disappointing thing for us though was that this pool could only be accessed via steps so we were unable to go up with our pushchair (which our baby was napping in throughout the day). The young guy on reception who checked us in incorrectly told us we could access by getting the lift to 1st floor but it turned out we couldn’t as the terrace rooms go all the way across.
